Richard Lewis: Evil Geniuses set to cut CS teams
One of the largest Organizations in the world of eSports could be shutting down their CS division.
Evil Geniuses has been the laughingstock of Counter-Strike for the past couple of years. The insanely poor run of results mixed with an array of roster changes, bad decisions and a general lack of vision for the entire project has seen the once-famed North American Organization fall out of the rankings. It's now over two years since EG was among the 10 best teams in the world. A win against European teams has been exceptionally hard to find for the different iterations of EG's Counter-Strike teams.
But soon this might all be over. According to journalist Richard Lewis, Evil Geniuses are headed into a time of downsizing which has already begun with the Dota2 team. Both the Women and Mens CS teams are also about to be shut down according to sources of Lewis.
- They’ll plan to just stay in Riot titles. So that means they’ll keep the men’s Counterstrike team until December and will likely cut the women’s teams before that, Richard Lewis cites a source on his substack website.
Evil Geniuses has not commented on the story. EG was founded in Canada in 1999. The Organization has been part of the Counter-Strike scene since the early 2000s. Their biggest tournament win came in 2019 with a $250,000 win at the StarSeries & i-League CS:GO Season 8.
