EG beat World Number 1 at BLAST Spring Groups 2023
The impossible becomes possible as Evil Geniuses stun the world by taking down the best-ranked team in the world.
In a shocking upset, the North American roster from Evil Geniuses took down the best-ranked team in the world, Heroic, at BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2023. Evil Geniuses, considered heavy underdogs heading into the match, secured a 2-1 victory over the Danes to advance to the Group A Upper Final of the event.
In a match filled with twists and turns, Heroic took the first map, Inferno, with a commanding 16-7 scoreline. EG fought back on the second map, Ancient, with a 16-14 victory, and finally sealed the deal on the final map, Overpass, with another 16-14 win.
One of the key contributors to EG’s victory was the team’s new AWPer, Jerric “wiz” Jiang, who made his debut as a member of the main roster, having a stellar performance throughout the match.
With this victory, Evil Geniuses now advance to the Group A Upper Final, where they will face off against Vitality. Meanwhile, Heroic falls down to the Lower Bracket of the event, where they are only one loss away from getting eliminated. This upset is a huge statement from Evil Geniuses, and they will be looking to continue their run to get a perfect start to the 2023 year.
