ZywOo: The saviour of French Counter-Strike
The world's best player in 2020 was not named s1mple but ZywOo
With the likes of Richard "shox" Papillon and Kenny "kennyS" Schrub beginning to lose their form around 2018, it seemed as if French Counter-Strike had started to slow down. This was proven to not be the case. Instead, the French Counter-Strike scene was just waiting for a certain player to come along and once again reignite the scene - this player goes by the name of Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut.
Not only did "ZywOo" force his own individual name into the mouths of every Counter-Strike fanatic across the world, he simultaneously managed to start a spark that would fuel a new fire in the rest of his fellow countrymen. In 2018, before "ZywOo" joined Vitality, there wasn't a single French Counter-Strike team in the final top 10 rankings. This has, however, changed as "ZywOo"'s Vitality currently ranks second in the world, with G2 being the other prominent French team, ranking in at 9th. in the world at this moment of time.
But exactly why is "ZywOo" such a good player and deserving of the current title he holds as the world's best player? Comparing "ZywOo" to "s1mple" the Swedish legend in Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer gave his take on why "ZywOo" was the better player in 2020:
"I think ZywOo is the better player right now because of what he does for his team. I have a hard time imagining s1mple, for example giving away the AWP, as ZywOo did on Inferno. I think ZywOo is trying to do everything that's best for his team and for me, he is the better player because of that."
When asked the same question between "s1imple" or "ZywOo" in 2020, Mathieu "Maniac" Quiquerez came to the same conclusion as he stated that it is all the different aspects and capabilities that the 20-year-old French prodigy possesses, which makes him take the slight edge as the world's best player in 2020.
