Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut has without a doubt been the best player of 2023. The Frenchman spearheaded Team Vitality's Major win in Paris with another stellar performance earning him the MVP title.

In a game on Overpass, ZywOo went 79-25 in K-D during the 47 rounds it took his team to win 25-22. The next on the list for his team contributed with 31 kills...

Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut - The phenomenon who was born on the exact date of the release of the original Counter-Strike game.

And as the prophecy foretold, ZywOo, of course, ended up being the man to carry his team to victory in the last-ever CS:GO Major in the history of the game, with Vitality taking home the BLAST.tv Paris Major title on home soil in France.

With a staggering 1.39 Rating and a massive impact round after round throughout the Legends and playoff stage, ZywOo also grabbed himself the ‘Most Valuable Player’ award for the entire Major. As it was his first-ever Major trophy, it was also his first time being crowned as the Major MVP.

The hometown favourites from Vitality have secured themselves a spot in the Champions Stage at BLAST.tv Paris Major after beating Monte 2-0 on Anubis (16-10) and Nuke (16-13) this Sunday.

That means Vitality’s French representatives in Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut and Dan “apEX” Madesclaire are set to play in front of the home crowd in the massive Accor Arena in Paris in the upcoming playoffs.

The early advancement was secured in a Bo3 series, where Vitality showed strong levels on especially their T sides, managing to rack up eight rounds on the offensive side on both Anubis and Nuke against the underdogs from Monte.

And as we have seen so many times before, it was ZywOo who ended up being the standout player on the server, with his two Danish teammates Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen and Emil “Magisk” Reif being right behind him on the leaderboard today.

We have taken a look at the highest-rated players so far in 2023 against the Top 30 teams. Two players from this list will not be able to play in the Paris Major, as both device (Astralis) and Norwi (Aurora) missed out on qualifying for the event. Vitality is the only team with two top-10 players, while G2 narrowly missed out with m0NESY ranking 11th on the list with the same rating as Norwi but with fewer maps played.

In the last Tier A tournament before the BLAST Paris Major, Team Vitality took home the trophy and the $100.000 with a clear 2-0 victory against Heroic.

The win came after a run in the lower bracket of the tournament after a loss on Day 1. Lotan 'Spinx' Giladi had been the big revelation during the tournament where the Israelian found back to his “ENCE” shape with several impressive performances. But in the playoffs, the impact of Peter 'dupreeh' Rasmussen was also notable, while Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut did “ZywOo” things ending the tournament with a 1.31 rating.

In the Grand Final against Heroic, it was Emil 'Magisk' Reif who topped the scoreboard after solid performances on both Vertigo and Inferno.

On Vertigo the match was fairly even, but on Heroic’s map pick of Inferno, it was one-way traffic in the first half with apEX and Magisk making great plays to secure a 10-5 lead at the break. And despite Heroic’s best efforts on their CT side, it was not enough to swing the match back in their favor. Vitality won 16-13, 16-12 to secure the trophy in Rio alongside $100.000 and a spot in the upcoming IEM Cologne tournament.

Now Vitality looks like one of the favorites to win the next Major on home turf, when the best teams in the world face each other in Paris next month.

Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut is dominating the ESL Pro League Season 17 leaderboard with impressive stats. The French AWPer from Team Vitality has achieved a 1.61 rating across 6 maps, putting him ahead of other top-tier players in the event.

The ESL Pro League is one of the most prestigious events in the CS:GO competitive scene, featuring top teams from around the world battling it out for a share of the $850.000 prize pool. As one of the most consistent players in the game, ZywOo has been delivering outstanding performances throughout the event.

However, ZywOo is not alone in the leaderboard. He is followed by sh1ro from Cloud9, who has achieved a 1.49 rating across 7 maps. He’s been a standout player as well, consistently delivering high-impact performances. There is no denying that the Vitality head coach Danny “zonic” Sørensen is in the possession of a true jewel of a CS:GO player with Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut.

- I need him to be a little more of a star player. Usually, when you are working with these types of players they are like divas, they want everything for themselves, they don’t want to meet in for breakfast and don’t care about being late, zonic said and continued:

- His work ethic is really, really good, and I love and respect that but sometimes I need him to step up and say “guys, you need to get your shit together”, especially when things aren’t going correctly. He’s too polite in some way. Because they listen to me but it just has so much more value when you have the best player in the world go out and say “let’s get our shit together”, zonic concluded.

It was a one-sided affair when Vitality took upon Grayhound in their opening match at ESL Pro League S17. 

During the first map of the series Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut went nuts. The 22-year-old took control of the game from the very start and destroyed the Australian team with a 25-5 socreline on the CT side. With ZywOo playing lights out, Grayhound stood no chance against Vitality who played with JACKZ as a stand-in instead of dupreeh.

Starting the series off on Inferno, Vitality came out pressing the speeder. The mixed European roster secured themselves a 12-3 scoreline going into halftime after leading the early stages of the game 11-0. With ZywOo playing lights out, Grayhound stood no chance against the clear favorites from Vitality. Switching sides, Grayhound couldn't get the momentum they needed to pull off an insane comeback on the CT side. Instead, Vitality closed out the game 16-4. The performance from ZywOo is currently his second-highest rating on LAN ever. What an impressive performance from the world's second-best. 

Next up, Vertigo. Similar to the first map, VItality was the team in the driving seat. The mixed European team with JACKZ as a stand-in kept on playing well as they destroyed the Australian team on the T side to secure themselves an 11-4 lead on the weaker T side of Vertigo. Moving to the CT side, VItality was quick to close out the map 16-5 and the series 2-0.

The MVP of BLAST World Finals in Abu Dhabi, Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov is not only a monster on LAN, but online the young Russian is perhaps even better.

On the biggest platform for top-tier Counter-Strike online FACEIT, m0NESY has been dominating taking over the 1st place on the Global rankings. Here he has dethroned another CS:GO pro, Paweł "dycha" Dycha.

How did Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, one of the most gifted and mechanical CS:GO player in history, become so good at the game? And how has he developed his picture-perfect aim and crosshair placement? 

One would think that it requires tons of hours in deathmatch, aim lab and other individual training tools. But that’s not the case at all. - Actually, I don’t do individual practice, to be honest (laughs). Before I was professional, I played a lot of FACEIT, even then I didn’t train individually. What I like is playing some surf, KZ or just playing for fun – I mean I like to have fun in this game, so most likely I play FACEIT to improve individually, the Vitality AWPer said.

ZywOo 1v4 clutch vs Fnatic at IEM Katowice:

When looking at the elite within competitive Counter-Strike these days it seems like there’s a standard of players using a more professional and modernized way of training and practising their skills. That includes specialized training exercises to sharpen your aim, how to peek certain angels, etc. 

Something that clearly differs from ZywOo's way of thinking, but with that being said it still seems to be the trend right now.

On Feburary 6, 2023, Vitality faced off against fnatic in a match for a spot at the playoffs in IEM Katowice 2023. The series was an action-packed one, with Vitality taking the first map, Overpass, with a 16-13 victory, while fnatic responded with a comfortable win on Mirage, 8-16. The final map, Nuke, was crucial for both teams as it would determine which of them would move on to the playoffs.

As the two teams both put up a great fight in the first half, Vitality held a 5-4 lead with only a few rounds left to play in the half. With the pressure on, Vitality’s star player, ZywOo, stepped up to the plate and delivered one hell of an impressive 1v4 clutch. Despite being heavily outnumbered, he was able to eliminate all four of his opoonents and secure the round for his team.

Team Vitality played fnatic in the last match of the series. The Winning team qualifies for Spodak Arena at IEM Katowice. 

When the pressure is at its highest and everything is on the line 22-year-old Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut pulls off an insane 1vs4 clutch to give Vitality a two-round lead on the T side of Nuke.

IEM Katowice is shaping up to be a very interesting event with several of the top teams performing at their highest level. One of them is Team Vitality who started the year going flawlessly through BLAST Spring Groups. Today they added the fourth victory in a row in 2023 with a clear 2-0 victory against NIP.

The match kicked off on Mirage, where NIP actually started well. But at 2-6 down, Vitality stepped up. The French/Danish/Israelian roster won all the remaining rounds in the first half which seemed to break the spirit of NIP who lost their map pick 16-10.

On Inferno, the bad news continued for NIP. Mathieu 'ZywOo' Herbaut was on fire which left absolutely no doubt about the outcome of the match. Vitality won 16-9 with ZywOo going 24-14 in K-D.

For NIP the most troubling sight was the lack of impact and kills from their new AWPer Daniil 'headtr1ck' Valitov. The Ukrainian only scored a rating of 0.59 for the two maps combined. The Swedish Ninjas drop down to the lower bracket with today’s loss.

Vitality’s star player, Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut gave a post-match interview following his team’s 2-1 victory over Heroic in the Group A final of the BLAST Premier Spring Groups. The victory secured Vitality’s spot as the first team to qualify for the BLAST Premier Spring Finals event, a prestigious tournament with a prize pool of $425,000.
