apEX after great run at EPL: This will for sure be a turning point for us
Will Vitality be able to return to the very top of CS:GO before the Major?
Vitality was once the team to beat in CS:GO in some periods throughout the last couple of years. The Frenchmen was ranked #1 in the world for over 10 weeks, won huge titles and possessed arguably the best player in the world in Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut.
Right now, at Vitality, the only constant and remaining factor of the abovementioned is ZywOo. The high rankings and the titles are no longer something we associate with the current state of the otherwise dominant team.
Vitality haven't managed to qualify for Grand Final in 2021
Vitality in 2020:
1.08 Rating / +816 K-D Difference / 61.1% Win percentage
Vitality in 2021:
1.03 Rating / -54 K-D Difference / 53.3% Win percentage
Despite the strugglesome year so far, Vitality managed to present a near-flawless Group Stage run at the ongoing ESL Pro League S14, where ZywOo and company only lost one of their four matches. Throughout the group, they battered strong teams like Astralis, Spirit, and ENCE, where they showed a glimpse of the old Vitality.
We have spoken with Vitality’s in-game leader, Dan “apEX” Madesclaire about the strong run and how it can be an important turning point for the squad.
- This event is very important for our confidence in the rest of 2021 and especially towards the Major. It’s a turning point for the team, for sure. We just want to show what we are capable of.
2021 has obliviously been a tough year for us. In the previous months, we’ve played bad Counter-Strike and we haven’t had the results that we expected.
During the player break, we have talked about our goals for the end of the season. We have started well so far, but this is not enough for us – We want to go further and to at least qualify for the semifinal at ESL Pro League Season 14, apEX explained to Pley at a press session held by ESL on Monday.
Vitality’s next challenge will be against Complexity at the playoff in ESL Pro League Season 14. An opponent, the Frenchmen have struggled against in their recent meetings, losing three of the last 4 maps versus the Juggernauts.
- When we played them at BLAST Premier Spring Groups it was a disaster for us. It was at that point, where I struggled in my life in some cases. We lost to them, but we could have lost to anyone else at that time.
I’m not scared of them, … and I just want to beat them and go further, apEX said on the press session.

The matchup at EPL between Vitality and Complexity is set to be played today at 19.15 (CET).
