Vitality, Cloud9, Astralis, and Complexity knocked down to lower bracket at BLAST Spring Finals
The defending Major champions from Paris were upset by Fallen's Imperial.
BLAST Spring Finals in Washington kicked off with a huge surprise. In the first match of the tournament, Team Vitality lost 2-0 to Imperial. The French Organization was on a 14 map win-streak after their two tournament wins at IEM Rio and BLAST.tv Paris Major, but in Washington the French/Danish/Israelien roster never really got started.
On Overpass it was one-way traffic with Marcelo 'chelo' Cespedes in the driver's seat. The Brazilian dominated the server alongside his teammates. Imperial won Overpas 16-3. Both Imperial did not stop here. Vertigo was Vitality's pick, but the Brazilians continued to prove their worth with a good T-side in the first half before closing down the map 16-14 to win the match.
Imperial - Vitality 2-0 | BLAST Spring Finals - Group A
MVP: Marcelo 'chelo' Cespedes - 1.51 rating
In the lower bracket of group A, Vitality will now face Cloud9 in an early elimination match. Cloud9 lost 16-11, and 16-11 to G2 on Vertigo and Inferno.
G2 - Cloud9 2-0 | BLAST Spring Finals - Group A
MVP: Ilya 'm0NESY' Osipov - 1.31 rating
Heroic was back on track in their opening match at the tournament. Complexity replaced NAVI shortly before the tournament started due to visa issues, but the NA team could not deliver on the same level as s1mple and company against the Danes. Heroic won 16-7, 16-6 on Inferno and Nuke.
Heroic - Complexity 2-0 | BLAST Spring Finals - Group B
MVP: Martin 'stavn' Lund - 1.49 rating
In the last game of the day, Astralis and FaZe encountered each other in a match that was anticipated to be a close affair. A rare off-day from Nicolai 'device' Reedtz proved to be enough for FaZe to completely dominate Astralis on both maps. Overpass and Mirage were almost over before it had started. FaZe looked very solid, but it was hard to tell if it was because of Astralis' bad performance, or if it was a sign of big things to come from the star-studded FaZe roster in Washington.
FaZe - Astralis 2-0 | BLAST Spring Finals - Group B
MVP: Håvard 'rain' Nygaard - 1.56 rating
