Smooya: "I signed for pennies"
Smooya, Woxic, and other pro players discuss salary in professional Counter-Strike
The scene of professional Counter-Strike is growing bigger and more competitive each day. Whilst being different than many other mainstream sports such as Football, for example, it holds many similarities as well. One of them being professional players, with a salary that binds them to an organization. In an interview with RivalryCSGO, players such as Woxic, Smooya, and Guardian discuss player salaries and whether or not it should be transparent to the public.
When asked about the topic, former Navi and Faze player, Ladislav "Guardian" Kovács expresses his opinion: "I don't think that player salaries should be public, because some of the players would get a lot of hate."
Viewing the topic differently than Guardian, Özgür "Woxic" Eker explains that he finds it beneficial if this information was to be public. He explains how transparency will make it easier for the players to discuss their professional careers with the public and states: "I think it is more transparent and I like this idea. It is like a football player, basically."
Joining Woxics stand is Owen "Smooya" Butterfield. The former BIG player emphasizes the importance of transparency, especially for younger players who have just begun their careers. When discussing the topic he mentions how he struggled himself, when signing his first contract with BIG. He states: "If I knew what other players were getting paid, I would have never accepted that"
