History Made in Shanghai: The MongolZ Become the First Asian Team to Reach a Major Playoff
An extraordinary display of resilience saw The MongolZ secure their 13th consecutive victory, making history at the Perfect World Shanghai Major.
The MongolZ's sensational run continued as they qualified for the playoffs, finishing a flawless 3-0 in the Elimination Stage. This achievement capped off a remarkable journey, with the team remaining undefeated throughout the entire Major cycle, including the RMR, Opening Stage, and now the Elimination Stage.
A Thrilling Victory Over Heroic
The match against Heroic was nothing short of dramatic. Heroic initially took the lead on Mirage, but The MongolZ bounced back on Anubis in a spectacular fashion. At one point, they looked set to easily take the map, but nerves seemed to take hold, allowing Heroic to mount a comeback. This forced the match into double overtime, where The MongolZ eventually triumphed.
The series then moved to Ancient, where The MongolZ got off to a strong start, leading 5-0. Despite Heroic's best efforts, they never truly threatened the Asian side’s dominance on the map. The MongolZ held their ground and sealed their place in history, becoming the first-ever Asian team to qualify for a Major playoff. This victory capped off their perfect run in the group stages of the Perfect World Shanghai Major.
BIG Falls Short: A Tough Loss for Europe
On the other stream, another European team, BIG, faced a tough loss against MIBR. The two teams fought hard across two closely contested maps, each team securing a win. However, on Mirage, paiN dominated BIG on their T side, leaving Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz and his squad with no chance for a comeback.
Despite their struggles, paiN survived another day, with a crucial upcoming match against their countrymen from FURIA, a do-or-die battle for both teams as they fight for a spot in the Major playoffs.
