Set your clocks! BLAST World Final starts early Wednesday
In Abu Dhabi eight of the best teams in the world fight for $500,000 in first prize.
Some of the best teams in the world are set to compete in the five-day event in Abu Dhabi, where the BLAST World Final is held.
The eight teams qualified are placed in two groups, where the top 3 advance to the Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals. All matches in the events are played as best-of-three matches.
Early Wednesday morning, Cloud9 and ENCE start the show with the opening match of Group A. Cloud9 is favored beforehand after having started to improve since the arrival of Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhaylov. The CIS roster did however lose out to both BetBoom and MIBR at the BetBoom Dacha tournament last week. On the other side of the server, Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander is spearheading the ENCE roster who has had 10 days since their last tournament in Finland to practice with the new lineup.
All teams will be in action on day 1 of the tournament. You can see the schedule down below.
Wednesday 13th of December: (Times in CET)
07.00: Cloud9 – ENCE
10.00: Vitality – Natus Vincere
13.00: FaZe – Heroic
16.00: MOUZ – G2
Storylines for the event:
It’s only a couple of days ago since David "frozen" Čerňanský was announced on FaZe as the replacement for Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken. The Slovakian rifler was brought in from MOUZ, who could be a potential opponent in Group B. MOUZ has loaned Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin from the bench of Ninjas in Pyjamas for the tournament.
Other storylines are Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander’s debut in a Tier-1 tournament for ENCE. The legendary in-game leader has taken over the reins from Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer. The tournament will also be the first LAN experience for the new G2 roster, where Nemanja "nexa" Isaković has replaced Justin "jks" Savage. BLAST World Final will be the last tournament for G2’s head coach Jan "Swani" Müller. The German coach and analyst has chosen to step down after the conclusion of the season.
Who are the favorites?
Team Vitality is the favorite to take home the event. The French organization is looking to crown a big season with their fifth tournament title across the year with the BLAST.tv Paris Major as the stand-out tournament. G2 could also finish the year in style defending their title from last year. G2 also won Katowice and Cologne this year which would make them the only team to win three $1,000,000+ events this year., if they are succesful in Abu Dhabi. FaZe is the third team in contention. The late change of roster could however set FaZe back after having won the first three CS2 events in history.
