"The Job Is Not Done": NiKo Reflects on G2's Victory Over FaZe at Shanghai Major
Nikola "NiKo" Kovač, one of Counter-Strike’s most celebrated players, was all business following G2’s dominant victory over FaZe Clan in the Elimination Stage at the Shanghai Major.
Despite the resounding 13-4, 13-3 win that secured G2’s place in the playoffs, NiKo made it clear that his sights are firmly set on the ultimate prize.
- It feels good. Obviously, it was our goal. It was the minimum that we needed to do, and I'm happy that we did it, even though we started bad. But the work is not done. The job is not done. There's a lot more games to play. So, the eyes are on the prize.
The matchup against FaZe, one of G2’s most frequent rivals, continues to lean heavily in G2’s favor. The victory marked the third consecutive time G2 has bested FaZe, with NiKo suggesting that both individual skill and stylistic advantages contributed to the streak.
- I think the last couple of times we have played them, I think FaZe has been underperforming for a while now, and I think we've never really faced a good FaZe, I would say. But maybe it's also due to us being slightly better individually. I think just the way they play fits us as well. I think we’re just better individually than them, and we play a very similar style. So, I think we just show up when we play versus them.
This assertion is backed by NiKo’s own stellar performance in the match. With a 1.65 rating and a 32-17 kill-death scoreline, he was instrumental in G2’s dominance, outshining FaZe in every department.
While the playoffs now await G2, the stakes are particularly high for NiKo, who has achieved almost every accolade in Counter-Strike except for a Major championship. This tournament could finally bring him the crowning achievement that has eluded him throughout his illustrious career.
- It feels good to be here, but we’re not done. The real work starts now, he reiterated, reminding fans and competitors alike that G2 is in it for the long haul. With the playoffs set to feature the world’s best teams, G2’s ultimate test is yet to come.
