Gambit stunned by Team Vitality at IEM Summer
Team Vitality dominated the best team in the world!
The Frenchmen are back! Team Vitality played their best match of 2021 and dismantled Gambit in two quick maps to qualify for the group A final on Sunday.
The action started on Dust2, where a deadly duo in Mathieu 'ZywOo' Herbaut and Kévin 'misutaaa' Rabier did the dirty work for Vitality, who won both halves and secured a 16-13 win on their own map pick.
Then everybody expected Gambit to wake up on Overpass. But this time Dan 'apEX' Madesclaire joined the show to make it even harder for the world's #1 to get things going. The first half ended in a regular slaughter with the Frenchmen leading 11-4.
A comeback was in the making in the second half, but Team Vitality regained control and made the upset come through. It did not help for Gambit, that they lost three players on the server at 8-14, which effectively ended the hopes of a comeback. An uplifting match however for the French roster, who has had huge problems with their gameplay in the past months. This day could be the start of a new and stronger Vitality roster. They will face the winner of G2 vs FunPlus Phoenix in the group final.
Gambit is knocked down to the lower brackets, where a matchup against the winner of Astralis vs Extra Salt awaits.
