Team Liquid breeze past Fnatic at EPL
The North Americans are off to a perfect start at ESL Pro League.
After a disappointing showing at DreamHack Open March NA, Team Liquid was back on European soil to participate in the "Group of Death" at ESL Pro League Season 13.
With three teams in the group among the top five teams in the world, there is no room to slip up in the matches against the lower ranked teams. For Fnatic the match was their first since they crashed out of the IEM Katowice Play-in tournament in February.
Overpass was picked by Fnatic as map one. Here the Swedes got off to an excellent start leading 3-0. But as the rounds unfolded the winning chances slowly faded away for Fnatic, who in the end faced a broken economy and a well playing Keith 'NAF' Markovic, who ended Overpass with a 1.41 rating and a 16-11 victory for Team Liquid.
Liquid picked Vertigo as the second battleground of the day. A map that Fnatic had not won on in 2021 in two attempts. The third try on the map quickly became a Deja Vu for the Swedes, who went down 6-0 before scoring a point. Fnatic had big problems with the opening duels, where Team Liquid was +9, making it an impossible mission to put up a fight against a dominating Team Liquid roster. Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo ended a good afternoon with a 22-10 K-D ratio on Vertigo giving his team an optimal start to the tournament with a 16-7 win.
Team Liquid will face Astralis tomorrow at the tournament, while Fnatic needs to defeat Endpoint to keep the hope of advancement alive.
Fnatic - Team Liquid 0-2 (11-16, 7-16)
MVP: Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo - 1.39 rating / 45-26 K-D / 80.1 ADR
