Lucky on replacing dev1ce: I’m playing better when I don’t think about it
The newest Astralis member knows that it's some very big shoes he has to fill out on the Danish team.
In July this year, Phillip “Lucky” Ewald signed for Astralis after a rather successful tenure at Tricked for the 18-year-old talent. The young AWPer joined the Danish CS:GO titans in a transition period for the roster, where Lucky has taken over from the legendary Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz as their primary sniper.
In an interview with the desk at BLAST Premier Fall Groups, Lucky opens up about his thoughts on replacing such a superstar as dev1ce, and what it does to his mindset.
-It’s hard sometimes not thinking about it, but I try not to, as much as I can. When I don’t think about it, I know that I’m playing much better. If I’m just focussing on myself and my own mind, then it’s a lot easier to do my thing.
dev1ce's transfer to NIP in April 2021 left a massive gap in the Astralis roster
Yesterday, Lucky and the rest of Astralis got off to a flying start at BLAST Premier Fall Groups, as they eased past Evil Geniuses in the opening round in Group A. A match, where the temporary IGL in Emil “Magisk” Reif led the team from the front, presenting a stellar 1.69 Rating throughout the series.
-The mood on the team is very great right now - Everyone is happy, Lucky said to the desk and continues:
Magisk is calling right now and he has to get used to that again. But I think he’s doing a phenomenal job, and that just makes it so much easier for the rest of the team to do our job. When he basically 1v5’s them, then it’s pretty easy to play with.
