G2 completes comeback against FPX and qualifies for group final
The French/Balkan roster came close to a loss but fought their way back.
G2 Esports continued their good form, as they qualify for the upper final in Group A.
The victory did not come easy though. For the second time today, FunPlus Phoenix chose the new map Ancient as their preferred battleground and was able to replicate their victory against Astralis earlier this day. This time it took a monstrous performance from Pavle 'Maden' Bošković, who completely destroyed G2 with 42 kills during the map! You can see highlights from the FPX player in the link below.
FunPlus Phoenix won Ancient 16-12 before the match moved on to Dust2.
Here it was Nemanja 'huNter-' Kovač who stole the show. The Bosnian had already clocked 12 kills by the fifth round of the map. G2 quickly established a 6-1 lead, but FPX was far from beaten. In the second half, FPX took the lead 12-10 and was only four rounds away from 2-0'ing G2. But then the combined French and Balkan roster stepped up. AmaNEk, JaCkz, NiKo, and huNter- all had big rounds at the end, which gave G2 the last push to win the map.
G2 did not only win the map, but they also carried the momentum onto Inferno. Here the expected brawl never really happened. G2 took the first half 11-4, which left FPX a mountain to climb to win the match.
It ended with a 16-10 win for G2, who can now look forward to a group final against Vitality on Sunday. FPX drops down to the lower bracket, where they will face Complexity tomorrow.
