FunPlus Phoenix sends BIG to lower bracket at IEM Summer Closed Qualifier
A strong showing on the decider map made the difference.
The winner of Funspark ULTI Europe will have to make another lower bracket run to succeed. BIG lost their opening match at the closed qualifier for IEM Summer to FunPlus Phoneix.
The Germans seemed like to have got the better of the veto, with Vertigo as the decider. The map came in use after both teams had won their map pick (Train and Mirage).
Despite having never won a competitive match on Vertigo, FunPlus Phoenix came out on top. After losing the first three rounds, the mixed European roster won all of the remaining 12 rounds in the first half. Pavle 'Maden' Bošković had a dominant performance, while the entire BIG squad had problems in the heights.
It ended catastrophically with a 16-4 defeat for the Germans, who now faces an elimination match later on tonight when they face the loser of G2 vs mousesports.
