The newly-released Copenhagen Flames players, led by captain Thomas "⁠birdfromsky⁠" Due-Frederiksen, has announced that they will continue to play together, despite all of them having entered free agency.

Besides birdfromsky, the mix includes Rasmus "⁠raalz⁠" Steensborg, Johannes "⁠b0RUP⁠" Borup, Thomas "⁠TMB⁠" Bundsbæk, and the former Astralis AWPer Asger "Farlig" Jensen.

The news was revealed in a Twitlonger published on b0RUP’s Twitter, where they also showed their gratitude towards the Copenhagen Flames organization that unfortunately went bankrupt two weeks ago. 

- We want to say a huge thank you to those at the organization, we know how hard you worked to try and keep things alight and we appreciate all the support you gave us these past 8 months. We created many friendships along the way and it was a real pleasure to play under such a reputable org.

- On that note, we have decided to continue playing together as a team and therefore we are free on the market. If there are any organizations out there that need a hardworking team then now is the time to hit our dms.

- We are very motivated and excited to see what the future brings, the players explain in a statement.

Copenhagen Flames has revealed that they have decided to bench and transfer list their absolute star player Iulian ‘regali’ Harjău, the organization confirmed on Twitter.

To replace the 20-year-old AWPer, CPH Flames have brought in Asger “Farlig” Jensen from Astralis with this being his second spell for the team. According to Philip Karsbøl, Head of Esports at Copenhagen Flames, this roster change is made to “improve the overall level of the squad”

- In addition, we believe that “farlig” is a perfect fit. He is first and foremost a fantastic guy and teammate, but in addition he is also an incredibly talented player who historically has performed at a very high level at our club. Since his last stay in Copenhagen Flames, “farlig” has gained even more experience, and we expect him to make an immediate impact.”

The transfer to Copenhagen Flames marks a return to the server for Farlig following his demotion on Astralis back in October last year, where he was replaced by no other than Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz. 

Farlig's re-debut is already happening at this very moment of writing as he features in CPH Flames' lineup against Aurora at BetBoom Playlist Urbanistic 2023.

Professional Counter-Strike can, like every other sport, be a cruel business. One day you be competing alongside your teammates doing what you love, and the next day you’ll find yourself on the bench unable to compete.

Someone who has experienced this is Asger “farlig” Jensen from Astralis. The 23-year-old AWPer has just been sent to the sideline following Astralis’ signing of the superstar AWPer Nicolai “device” Reedtz this Thursday.

Kasper Hvidt, Director of Sports at Astralis, confirmed the benching of farlig in a [link:{"url":"https://www.astralis.gg/post/hes-coming-home","isNewTab":true,"text":"statement "}]today where he also praised farlig for his services in the team.

-It is important for me to emphasize that Asger "farlig" Jensen, who is now replaced by Nicolai, is a talented, loyal, and hard-working player, who has done everything he could to help the team. There are not many Danish players who would immediately take over the role and we have already started the work to find a good solution so that he can continue his development

It stands quite clear that farlig’s days at Astralis are set to be numbered with the above-mentioned quote. Furthermore, Hvidt has confirmed to [link:{"url":"https://www.dust2.dk/nyheder/31789/farlig-skal-videre","isNewTab":true,"text":"Dust2.dk"}] that the former FPX player won’t play for the organizations’ academy team Astralis Talent.

Where farlig would land next is still unknown. But a plausible solution could be to follow the footsteps of Phillip “Lucky” Ewald, who suffered the same fate on Astralis earlier this year. He decided to go down the ladder and join the lower-tier Tricked, being the team, he represented before joining Astralis.

Astralis have been a part and competed at every single Major championship since its birth back in 2016, winning four titles on their way. However, that streak might end sooner rather than later with the Danes currently fighting an uphill battle in the attempt to secure a ticket for the upcoming Rio Major.

But if you ask Janko "YNk" Paunović, CS:GO analyst and expert, he believes missing out on the Major would actually be the best possible outcome for Astralis.

- I think the best thing that could happen to Astralis is not making it to the Major. Then you just blow up the roster. You keep blameF, you keep gla1ve, and then you get device and potentially staehr and zyphon from Sprout. There’s a roster for you, YNk said on the desk before Astralis’ match against Eternal Fire.

YNk clearly doesn’t believe in the current Astralis lineup, saying the problems already started right after they signed Benjamin “blameF” Bremer and Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke in a blockbuster transfer in November last year.

Following that Asger “farlig” Jensen also arrived replacing Phillip “Lucky” Ewald on the AWP.

- There have been issues with this roster ever since they added k0nfig and blameF, with the role overlap with gla1ve, which we have talked about time after time, YNk stated on the desk. I think it would be a great sort of excuse for them to start fresh - give the players some rest, to reset mentally. It has been a very draining process with someone like gla1ve and xyp9x who have won four Majors and been a part of the best team in the world for a couple of years. Now they can’t even make the Major.

Astralis began their European RMR campaign at IEM Road to Rio yesterday, where they are hoping to secure a prestigious ticket to the Rio Major later this month. The Danes are currently on a 1-1 record after beating Eternal Fire today and losing to Ninjas in Pyjamas on Tuesday. They will play their next matchup tomorrow.

The first day of Group C at ESL Pro League saw the Danish squad suffer a tough 1-2 defeat to Grim and company from Complexity, who all had to recover from losing their own map pick of Inferno (9-16) to take a W in the end by winning on Nuke (25-23) and Dust2 (16-11). 

Here, on the second day of play in Group C, gla1ve’s troops from Astralis managed to get back on track with their first victory after comfortably stealing MOUZ’ pick of Inferno (16-7), before they put an end to the series with a hard-fought victory on Nuke (16-14).

Man of the match ended up being Astralis’ AWPer Asger “Farlig” Jensen, who especially impressed on the second map of the series and helped his team close out the action. The 23-year-old Danish AWPer finished off the series with an excellent 1.46 Rating 51 kills across the two maps. Farlig and Astralis will be back in action tomorrow at 12:30 (CET) when they take upon the Frenchmen from HEET.

Astralis made it out of the Play-in stage at IEM Cologne with an excellent 2-1 victory against the hometown heroes from BIG.

During the first of Nuke, Astralis in-game leader Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander had a bit of a nightmare in the first half going 0-0-14 on the scoreboard before finally making an impact in the match with his game-defining 1vs3 clutch in round 15.

The Astralis in-game leader could see his two teammates Asger "farlig" Jensen and Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke perform at a good level against BIG, while also Andreas 'Xyp9x' Højsleth has shown signs of improvements lately. Speaking of his own individual level, the four-time Major winner explains how he is taking a more aggressive role on the team, which can be tough on his personal stats.

Astralis will face FURIA in the opening round of IEM Cologne.

Vitality and Astralis faced each other in their opening match of the tournament in a Bo1. Somewhat surprisingly, the map veto ended with the teams heading to Vertigo, a map that neither team have good winning percentages on.

The Vitality roster started out great on the T side. The two players who have been shining the most since the roster change; "ZywOo" and "dupreeh", were both playing extremely well, and led the team to an 8-2 lead. The Astralis boys recovered a tad towards the end of the half resulting in a 9-6 scoreline.

"blameF" and "Farlig" both had good performances throughout the game, and with "Xyp9x" not far behind, the Danes almost managed to make a comeback. It was not to be for Astralis though, as Vitality managed to close it out and take their first victory at IEM Dallas.

When Astralis decided to acquire Asger “Farlig” Jensen in February this year it was because they were in need of a potent primary AWPer after a mediocre period with Phiilip “Lucky” Ewald. However, it seems like Farlig hasn’t fully convinced his new captain yet.

Because at the newly-concluded Major when things were heating up and Astralis were fighting for elimination against Liquid, Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander took the big green away from Farlig and decided to AWP himself. - Yes, that I'm sure of. Also, if you ask gla1ve. But there are not that many seconds to think, and it is quite clear that if we had played Liquid in other circumstances, we would also have beaten them relatively comfortably. It was the pressure that made the outcome. (…) You can probably also relate to a situation where someone is feeling that now it’s me who has to settle this, and then you do it. Astralis struggled heavily after losing their star AWP'er of "dev1ce". After about three months the Danish powerhouse picked up the Tricked talent Philip "Lucky" Ewald to step in as the team's main AWP'er. But Astralis still struggled to find good performances, and "Lucky" was even taken off the role as the main AWP'er. After six months 19-year-old Ewald was benched and replacing him was Asger "Farlig" Jensen who was a more proven entity.

Since the addition of "Farlig", the results of Astralis have been more steady, and they are slowly trending upwards again.

We asked Niels Christian "NaToSaphiX" Sillassen to look through demos and give his takes on the two Danish AWP'ers. In the video seen below, the Danish streamer demonstrates the difference in playstyle, decision-making, mechanical ability, and much more. He also goes into depth about how they play within the Astralis system, and what they have each brought to the squad.

NIP and Astralis went head-to-head for a spot in the Grand Final and what on paper looked like a close matchup was everything but.

Astralis got off to a great start on the T-side of their own map pick: Nuke. NIP luckily managed to recover quite nicely and were only behind by a single round at halftime despite being down by four rounds at one point.

After the break, The Swedes looked to come back and take away the lead from the Danes. Instead, they were met by a brick wall. The Swedes managed to take a chip out of the wall four times, but ultimately it was just too solid for them, and Astralis secured the first map at 16-11.

The next map up was NIP’s pick of Mirage which on paper should be an easier task for the Swedes even though the Bad News Eagles humiliated them on the very same map just a few days ago.

No matter what advantages the Ninjas were able to get early on, they could not seem to capitalize on them as the two dangerous Danes “blameF” and “Farlig” were a step ahead every time. The Swedes would have to make the comeback of all comebacks to win this map as they were behind 14-1 at the break.

Astralis quickly ended the map at 16-1 and eliminated the Swedish Ninjas from BLAST.

Yesterday Astralis managed to book themselves a spot at the upcoming PGL Antwerp Major after a fierce battle against HEET at the European RMR. In the vital series, the four-time Major winners were pushed to the very edge by the French underdogs.

The RMR tournament was only Astralis’ second event together playing with their new AWPer Asger “Farlig” Jensen, who they required in late February at the expense of Phillip “Lucky” Ewald.

Right after sealing the Major ticket, Astralis captain gla1ve touched on his new AWPer talking about his role on the team and his performance lately.

Astralis have qualified for every Major since 2016 when the Danish Organization was founded. Today came close to being the first time of missing out. But when it mattered the most, the Danes regained composure and kept their heads cool.

Both teams were 2-2 before the final decider match, where the winner would advance to the Antwerp Major, while the loser would be out.

On Dust2 the match started well for the Danes taking a 10-5 lead to the break. But on their T-side everything went wrong. It was the French "Lucky", Lucas 'Lucky' Chastang that took control in the second half, where HEET turned the match upside down and won Dust2 16-13.

Ancient has been Astralis-territory lately. The Danes have quickly mastered the newest map in the map pool, and are considered some of the best in the world on the map. With seven T-sides on the board, the Danes just needed to deliver their usual potent CT side to force the match to overtime. But HEET was not done making an impact, and at 14-11 in favor of the Frenchmen, it looked like a gigantic sensation was underway. But then this happened.

Farlig's ace kickstarted the Danes who avoided the upset on Ancient to keep the Major dream alive.

It was hard not to feel sorry for the Frenchmen, who lost the chance of their life to upset one of the biggest Organizations in one of the most important matches in their career. They still had the chance on Nuke though, but quickly it was evident, that the underdogs had lost the momentum, that had kept them in contention so long. Astralis cleaned out on their CT-side taking a monumental 11-4 lead to the second half. After a tech pause, the Danes finished off HEET despite a valiant effort from the underdogs. The Danes locked in their Major spot with a 16-11 win on Nuke, with Asger "farlig" Jensen again delivering the needed impact. The Danes become the last team to qualify for the PGL Antwerp Major that takes place next month.

The final qualifying spot to be found today was up for grabs between G2 and Astralis. Both are iconic names within the professional CS:GO scene, however, only one of them would secure the prestigious ticket to Antwerp today. As expected, the brawl between G2 and Astralis was close and intense from start to finish. Failing to reach a conclusion after the first two maps, a third and final map was needed for the Bo3-series to find a victor. Both teams climbed their way up to Vertigo and a final brawl ensued. Ultimately, it was the star-studded roster of G2, led by "NiKo" to claim victory against the Danes. A close brawl concluded and G2 managed to secure a ticket to Antwerp for the upcoming PGL Major 2022. 

The first map of the Bo3-series was picked by G2 and saw the two CS:GO giants begin their battle on the iconic map of Dust 2. Saying that both teams are familiar with Dust 2 would be an understatement, so a close and back and forth game was to be expected from the two rosters. The first half didn't fail to deliver in terms of entertainment. Trading rounds back and forth, the two teams went to halftime at a close scoreline of 8-7, slightly favoring the G2 side. Whilst the first half had delivered in terms of a close and exciting brawl between the two teams, the second half showcased a CT masterclass from G2. Shutting down Astralis in every possible way, the European-international roster of G2 proved dominant. Despite a "k0nfig" on fire, Astralis had to see themselves bested on Dust 2 at the scoreline of 16-10. 

The second map of the series was picked by Astralis and, perhaps unsurprisingly, meant a trip to the jungle. Ancient has been Astralis' hidden weapon in a time where they have struggled to succeed on the other maps in the official map pool. Starting on the more challenging T-side, Astralis came flying out of the gate. Thanks to impactful lurks from "k0nfig" and "blameF" topping the leaderboard, the Danes took complete control over Ancient from the get-go. Failing to contain the Danes, G2 had to see themselves behind at 12-3, going into the second half of Ancient. With the arguably more difficult T-side over for Astralis, it seemed as if Ancient was already finished before the second half got underway. Whilst G2 gave it their best shot in the second half, Ancient was over before you could blink. A stunning performance from the Danes netted them a 16-7 victory on their own map pick of the series. 

With both teams winning their own map pick, it all came down to Vertigo as the third and final map of the Bo3-series. It is no secret that Astralis have had difficulty on the map in recent times, however, coming off the back of the impressive Ancient victory, Vertigo was anyone's map to take home. As a matter of fact, it was Astralis to carry on their momentum from Ancient and start the strongest on Vertigo. An impressive CT-sided start to the half saw them gain an 8-2 lead before being answered back by G2. Managing to close the gap before switching sides, things were as close as possible at the scoreline of 8-7 going into halftime. The second half continued as the first had ended, extremely close. It was clear that neither team would give up on the chance to qualify for the PGL Major here and now. Regulation proved inadequate and overtime was needed to find the victor of the Bo3-series. Ultimately, G2 proved more resilient and managed to take down the Danes after an intense affair on Vertigo at the scoreline of 19-17.

PGL Major Antwerp 2022 Europe RMR B overview - Spirit vs Endpoint (2-0) 

Whilst the brawl between Astralis and G2 was underway, another brawl took place over on the B-stream between Spirit and Endpoint. Whereas Astralis and G2 found themselves fighting for a qualifying spot, the battle between Spirit and Endpoint was to avoid elimination from the RMR event. 

Spirit proved their worth when facing Endpoint and after two confident victories on Dust 2 and Vertigo, they were able to guarantee themselves another fighting chance for a ticket to Antwerp. After the victory against Endpoint, Spirit are sitting on a 2-2 record at the RMR event.

Despite Astralis losing their quarter-final against FURIA, Asger "farlig" Jensen still made the play of the match with two no-scope kills in Hut on Nuke.

The play happened after Astralis had lost three men during the round, but farlig and Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth still managed to turn the 2vs5 situation into a win after a spectacular play from the AWP'er.

That’s the number of days since Astralis’ last tournament victory. After taking home the trophy at IEM Global Challenge back in December 2020, the Danes haven’t achieved anything near what they did in their glory days.

The renowned CS:GO analyst and expert, Jacob ”Pimp” Winneche, has also expressed some concern on Astralis’ current roster and direction in a recent episode of “Pimp Talks” on his YouTube. The former pro player pinpoints Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth and his declining individual level as one of the most worrying factors for Astralis.

- I do have more faith in Xyp9x than most people have. But I am also willing to say that unless Xyp9x plays well at the next Major or finds a way not to be a liability within Astralis for the next 2-3 months, I think he’s the next guy to get cut, Pimp said and continued to talk about potential solutions for the Danish heavy hitter.

- In terms of Danish rifling talents, there’s actually quite a lot. (…) You can definitely find someone who can replace Xyp9x. You can just buy out valde from OG if you had the money – that would be a fantastic fit for Astralis and would instantly make them title-contenders in my opinion.

Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså is currently playing for OG alongside the likes of Nemanja "nexa" Isakovic and Mateusz "mantuu" Wilczewski. The 26-year-old Dane has been one of OG's best players and one of the scene's most powerful rifle players since he joined back in late-2019. Tuesday this week, Astralis announced the signing of the powerful sniper Asger “Farlig” Jensen. The former FunPlus Phoenix profile is set to replace Phillip “Lucky” Ewald as he was moved to the bench to make way for his three-year older countrymen.

Following the recent transfer, we got the opportunity to hear from the man himself, where we asked him about his and Astralis’ goals going forward but also the period after his benching on FPX.

Astralis is arguably one of the biggest and most famous CS:GO teams in history – What were your thoughts when they first reached out to you?

- Incredibly proud, humble and more motivated than ever.

- Everybody talks about Astralis in Denmark, it is a huge brand with a massive, professional organization and an incredible fanbase. I mean, Royal Arena was filled for BLAST and it seemed like nearly every single fan there was an Astralis fan. At the same time, it is an organization known for their performance model and support staff surrounding their players. I am incredibly excited to be an Astralis player and to get a first-hand experience of what it is like.

You haven't played any matches since October 2021 – How have you stayed in shape for CS:GO?

- I have been playing FACEIT and watching demos, when you aren't active you definitely have time to watch nearly every CSGO match being played by top teams.

On a more personal basis, how did you experience the period after FPX decided to leave the scene and transfer list you and the team?

- Well, initially nothing was happening for any of us FPX players, given that we were transfer listed right before the Major. It was a long waiting period for me before teams began expressing any interest; I can't blame FPX for benching us, we didn't deliver any results. I'm just happy to be back in business now, and with such an exciting organization and roster.

Farlig wants to bring Astralis back to winning trophies at the top of CS:GO

Was it tough for you to be without a team and be in this uncertainty concerning your future in CS:GO?

- Yes, seeing teams playing matches from the sidelines is frustrating. It doesn't even matter what tier matches are being played, just the fact that you, yourself, aren't playing or practicing with a team feels like a time waste, but obviously, the feeling is amplified when watching the big tournaments. Seeing Katowice in particular really sparked a feeling of wanting to be there to participate in me.

Were you confident that a top-tier team would sign you after your and FPX's performance in 2021?

- I felt it was fairly likely, but as they say: Nothing is a certainty.

What do you hope you and the Astralis team can achieve this year?

- First of all, we want to become a better version of Astralis. You can't be in this organization without ambitions to win and to be the best in the world, but the competition is strong and there is a lot of work to do, so it's all about improving each day. Personally, I want to win trophies this year, and I'm certain we can win one if we better our play incrementally every day.

What are your personal goals in CS:GO for this year after having signed with Astralis?

- I want to show that I can be a huge contributing factor towards winning within the team; I am not satisfied with the individual level I showed during my time in FPX, but in the end, it's a team game, and if I can help in making the team a better version of itself, I am happy.

After their worst run in history at an IEM Katowice event, Astralis has announced a change to their lineup. 

- Our head coach, Alex "Ave", has worked with the players to make it work and it has become clear what is needed on the team, and we have chosen to speed up the process by picking up a skilled, aggressive player with lots of firepower who can contribute from day 1. I am therefore glad we have reached an agreement with Asger "farlig" Jensen, who immediately joins us as a new AWP player, Director of Sports at Astralis, Kasper Hvidt.

Asger "farlig" Jensen has previously played for FunPlus Phoneix, GODSENT, and Copenhagen Flames. The Danish AWP'er was free on the market after FunPlus Phoenix discontinued their CS:GO Division in late 2021.

The benching of Philip "Lucky" Ewald comes after a difficult time for the 19-year-old sniper, who was switched around in positions on the team, and had to play with several different rosters during his seven months on the team. 

-  The change means that we have to bench Philip "Lucky" Ewald. For 7 months he has worked with himself and the team, but, unfortunately and despite all his and the team’s work, we have not been able to get the best out of him. Philip is a cool and very well-liked guy with some obvious skills we have not managed to unfold. He will stay on contract for now, and no matter what happens, I am sure we will hear more from “Lucky” in the future, Kasper Hvidt states in a press announcement.

Asger “Farlig” Jensen haven’t played an official CS:GO match since October last year, where he and the rest of the FunPlus Phoenix roster were benched following a lacklustre 2021-season. The 22-year-old Dane, who became a free agent in mid-January this year, has spoken with [link:{"url":"https://www.dust2.dk/nyheder/27228/problemer-rev-langsomt-men-sikkert-holdet-fra-hinanden","isNewTab":true,"text":"Dust2.dk"}] about his future.

- Right now, I'm playing FACEIT and watching demos of matches to keep myself going. It's easy to fall "out of the loop" with all the small changes that constantly happens in the meta-game if you don't keep up.

- If I don’t put pen to paper on a contract soon, then I will probably look to form a roster with some of the other Danish players, who are free on the market, Farlig stated in an interview with Dust2.dk.

Farlig got his breakthrough on Copenhagen Flames back in 2018-2020, where he showcased his promising levels in lower-tier tournaments as LOOT.BET Season 4 and the Danish CS:GO league. His talents with the big green made the Sweden-based organization GODSENT sign him to their roster alongside the likes of Pavle “maden” Boskovic and Martin “STYKO” Styk.

Despite the unsuccessful spell with GODSENT/FPX, the young Dane haven’t lost his motivation to compete at the very top of CS:GO.

- I'm definitely not done (playing CS:GO). I'm hungry to play on a team again, where I can prove my worth as a player.
