BIG reverse sweep G2 again
G2 loses against BIG after winning the first map in the upper bracket quarter-final.
Tonight’s upper bracket quarter-final had some interesting plays and performances by both teams. A well playing BIG team managed to win 2-1 in maps against G2 who now will compete in the lower bracket.
First map G2 surprisingly picked Inferno with a win rate of only 33%. BIG dominated at the beginning of the map which resulted in an early lead by 6-1, but G2 managed to bounce back and were suddenly making it a close game. G2 ended up being a better team as they won 16-13, and upped their win rate to 40% on Inferno.
For the second map, BIG picked Dust2 and started well by winning the two first rounds. G2 changed the pace as their economy got better and won the next 5 rounds in a row. The German side had enough and took the next 5 rounds with aggressive plays on the CT side. The first half finished 9-6 in favor of BIG. It seemed like BIG would close the map fast as they started the second half by winning 3 rounds in a row taking a lead of 12-6. A strong performance by Nemanja “huNter-“ Kovac helped G2 to add a few rounds and get close to a comeback before BIG wrapped up the game 16-13.
In the third and last map, Overpass was going to be the decider. BIG finished the first half with a strong T side winning 7 rounds on a CT sided map which Overpass is. With a score of 8-7 to G2, the second half began and BIG won the pistol round that gave them a good advantage on the economy. After a long streak of rounds, the German team closed it out at 16-10 and wrapped up the game.
G2 has one more chance from the lower bracket on Wednesday against OG.
