BIG move past Fnatic at Funspark ULTI Finals
Josef "faveN" Baumann gets a win in his first official match for BIG, despite tough debut game.
The Germans from BIG has commenced their 2022 campaign in perfect fashion as they take down Fnatic in the opening round at Funspark ULTI Finals 2021. The 2-0 victory will see BIG move on to the next round in the upper bracket, while Fnatic on the other hand has been sent down to the dangerous knockout bracket.
The Bo3 series began on Fnatic’s map pick on Overpass, where Alex “ALEX” McMeekin hoped that he and Fnatic would take advantage of their strong 5-6 record on the map in the last three months. However, the Swedish-British mix didn’t manage to set up a decent fight against BIG, who quite easily ran over Fnatic 16-7 from the very get-go.
Things got more heated and competitive on Mirage, where Fnatic through a strong T side succeeded in taking the lead before the halftime switch. A lead, which not lasted long. All because of the powerful IGL Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz, who led BIG from the front. Despite BIG going up 14-11 near the end, it ended up being Fnatic taking home the second map and sending the match through to the decider by a 19-17 overtime win.
The 2-1 win was sealed on Nuke, where BIG once again took control of the server and left no doubt which team was the better on the day. The loss for Fnatic means that they will go up against Astralis in a thrilling elimination match tomorrow.
