Rush on oBo exit: “I lost a lot of respect for him”
oBo’s decision to step down brought some frustrations with it.
It was a big surprise for the entire CS:GO world when it was announced late September that Owen “oBo” Schlatter has stepped down from Complexity. The young American had left the Complexity camp in London because he wasn’t comfortable staying in Europe in this current state of time with a global pandemic over our heads.
In a documentary series from Complexity called “Through the smoke”, the organization provides an interesting and exclusive insight into the situation regarding oBo, which seems to be a more dramatic exit than first expected.
Jason Lake, CEO of Complexity explains how oBo calls him up in the middle of the night saying that he’s at the airport and he’s flying home in two hours even though Lake and oBo had agreed prior to this that the young American stayed one week and finished the ongoing tournament. Because this takes place in the middle of ESL Pro League and DreamHack Open Fall qualifiers, two important tournaments for the team.

oBo’s surprise exit also shocked his teammates and meant that Complexity had to play with their coach as a stand-in, in games where they were assured oBo would feature in. His teammate, Will “Rush” Wierzba explains how he didn’t gave any form for notice before he left, and how this caused some frustration within the team and ends by saying that he doesn’t plan to talk with him again.
“It was a shock to all of us because he never really said to us “hey I can’t handle this” or “hey I want to go home”. He never said anything, he just left on a whim. I lost a lot of respect for him. I gained a lot of respect for him, making it this far, but I would never think about doing that”
Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke continues and says that he understands his decision, but how he doesn’t comprehend the way he did it.
“He did the right thing for himself, but I think he did it the wrong way. He just left without with like zero to no notice. I think it caught everyone off guard that he chose the decision to just leave”
