Richard Lewis: "2021 is going to be a crazy year"
CS:GO analyst and expert Richard Lewis comments on what we can expect from 2021
With the first big tournament of 2021 in BLAST Premier Global Final 2020 having been concluded, with NAVI crowned as champions, we now have something to base our expectations for the remaining 2021-season on. Whilst many believe that Astralis, despite them losing against NAVI in the final, is going to be the dominating force of 2021, after returning to the original and iconic core, CS:GO expert Richard Lewis thinks otherwise.
He believes that what we have seen at BLAST Premier Global Final, and even throughout 2020, is an indicator of a Counter-Strike scene with a more leveled playing-field than ever before:
"I think what this tournament has shown me is that we are going to see lots of different winners across the next few competitions. We are not gonna have an era or even a dominating team. Astralis look too beat up - they are the greatest core of all time in CS:GO, no doubt about it, but it couldn't last forever."
He points out that with so many great rosters going into 2021 it is difficult to imagine one single team being the dominating force and creating their own era in the upcoming season. Astralis, Vitality, NAVI, G2, Mousesports, and Faze are all teams capable of winning even the biggest of tournaments if you ask Richard Lewis, and BLAST Premier Global Final 2020 has shown exactly that.
If one team is to be the dominating force in 2021, however, he points to NAVI as being a plausible contender:
"I think "Boombl4" needs to work on his tactics still, i think their CT-side is shaky, but there was none of that in the final. They looked great, they had a read on a very good tactical Astralis on maps that have a lot of tactical application to be adapt on, like Nuke."
Whether we are going to see a dominant force in 2021, and whether it is going to be NAVI if so, is still uncertain. One thing is for sure, however, 2021 is going to be a crazy year of Counter-Strike.
