Maniac on shox: What a downfall this has been, the greatest downgrade in history
Will we ever see the French legend on the biggest stage of CS:GO again?
The CS:GO analyst and expert Mathieu “Maniac” Quiquerez did not hold back when he, in a vodcast called Snake & Banter, dissected the “downfall” of the French veteran Richard “shox” Papillon after two catastrophic spells on Liquid and Apeks.
shox’s 2022 is a freaking meteor downfall. Oh my god, did I not see that coming when he was removed from Vitality in 2021. I have to say I had heavy doubts about the fruitful move to Liquid … but I had actually no idea how deep this would go. This has to be the greatest downgrade in terms of a player’s credit in a span of 12 months.
From winning IEM Winter in December to the bench
In the vodcast, Maniac outlines how shox went from winning IEM Winter in late 2021 to being demoted on Liquid and thereafter Apeks.
It went from people actually questioning the change of Vitality when they had this relatively great run at the end of 2021, where people were saying: Oh, why are they making changes, this is working well - maybe it’s just Kyojin, shox is still doing his work”. To it not going well in Liquid, to Apeks now putting their entire roster on hold where shox is free to explore his options.
His score has just gone down the drain to a point where I don’t believe any European team is going to sign him – above the Top 20 I would be surprised. If he still has the grit and motivation, maybe he can go back to the French scene and try to build something up. But what a downfall this has been.
For the new viewers out there who aren’t aware of who shox is: We talk about one of the best players in CS:GO for the first few years, a player who has put his name into the game without any shadow of a doubt, one of the most influential players we’ve had, who just has completely absolutely crashed and burned in 2022, Maniac stated.
