9z had no chance when facing the NA giants of Team Liquid
The final Bo3-series at the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown 2021 event was set to play out between Team Liquid and 9z. On paper, there was little doubt as to who the heavy favorites were going into the series. With 9z being the underdogs, a huge potential upset was on the cards as the two teams got ready to brawl. The battle, however, was never competitive. Team Liquid starting by besting their opponents in a confident showing of skill on Nuke. The second map reached the same conclusion as the first had done – Liquid proved to be the better roster by far. In just two maps it was the NA giants to take home the victory and advance to the Quarterfinals of the event.
The first map was the choice of 9z and saw the Bo3-series start on Nuke. On paper it seemed that perhaps the South American roster would have a chance on Nuke, seeing that it is undoubtedly their best map in the map pool and one of Team Liquid’s worst maps. A 9z victory on Nuke, however, never really seemed like a possibility once the two teams had entered the server. Once started it became clear that Team Liquid are a different kind of beast than what they are used to facing. A dominant CT-sided first half led to a 12-3 scoreline favoring the NA roster. The second half was just as dominating and without allowing their opponents a single round, it was Team Liquid to take home Nuke at the scoreline of 16-3.
The second map of the series was to be played on Inferno and was, of course, picked by Team Liquid. This time beginning on the T-side, Team Liquid seemed just as confident as they did on Nuke, still managing to keep their opponents at a distance. At the scoreline of 11-4, the Liquid boys were poised to finish the Bo3-series in the second half of Inferno. The second half saw Team Liquid, led by a “FalleN” on fire, post yet another strong CT-side. At the impressive scoreline of 16-6, Team Liquid closed out Inferno and thereby also the series with a 2-0 victory.
