Cloud9 GM: It just doesn’t make any sense

Henry Greer gives his insight into the new Cloud9 and its transparent way of thinking.

Henry "HenryG" Greer is the man behind the newly established Cloud9 roster or as he has baptised it, the new ‘Colossus’. The GM at Cloud9 has since his arrival at the North American organization, tried to revolutionize different aspects in the CS:GO world. In an interview with Freya Spiers and Flashpoint, Henry Greer expresses his views on Cloud9 and their more transparent way to look at player salaries and transfers.

The GM of Cloud9 has announced every Cloud9 player's contracts, disclosing both the value and length. He explains that this transparent way of announcing every player’s salary only will benefit the players but also the game itself. And in fact, Greer states that he can’t name a single reason not to do so.

“The idea is that if the numbers are out there, players can assess their own value, especially within my own team. A lot of people would ask me that you can see the disparity in their contracts and the salaries and stuff like that and is that not a concern for you. No, it’s absolutely not like if anything it should inspire players with lesser salaries to actually start turning up and show us what they can do.”

HenryG says that Cloud9 is the first and only team to present and hold this transparent way of thinking, but he believes that it will be the next thing for the majority of the scene. He believes that player earnings and big player transfers should be something to be proud of and rejoice instead of concealing it.

“I think it’s just the next step. I feel like we are kind of spinning our wheels and it just doesn’t make any sense to me why we’re not releasing this information. Like if you are investing the amount of money I know teams are in towards CS:GO, I feel like that should be a celebration, that should be something you are telling everyone about."

Greer also gives his explanation to why other organizations don’t follow them by announcing their economic deals with their players.

“There is good reason to why a lot of other organizations don’t want to announce their salaries or their buyouts because they either paid way too much and it’s been bad business while they are paying their players way too little and they don’t want anyone to know that they actually got a couple of raw deals on the table for their players.”
