G2 survive another day at BLAST Premier Spring Final
The nexa-led troops ended on top, as they eliminated FaZe after a thrilling three-map battle.
The #3 seed in G2 had their backs to the wall at the prominent $425.000 tournament, when they today squared off against the lowest-seed and underdogs from FaZe. Despite having elimination right over their heads, G2 managed to present a strong showing against a surprisingly good FaZe side, which in the end resulted in a much-needed 2-1 victory.
Nemanja “nexa” Isakovic and his soldiers started the match red-hot and the favourites didn’t hesitate a second to steal FaZe’s map pick on Ancient, through a dominant display by the Bosnian superstar Nikola “NiKo” Kovac. On the newly implemented map, the powerful rifler averaged an outstanding 1.31 Rating / 83.5 ADR which led G2 to a 16-10 win.
The perfect start for G2 mixed with the insane individual powers from the Kovac cousins and AmaNEk, made a strong argument for a clean and fast 2-0 win. However, that wasn’t the plan – Especially, if you asked FaZe’s young Latvian Helvijs 'broky' Saukants. On the second map on Inferno, the promising AWPer helped his team to an impressive 16-12 win, to send the match to a third and decisive map.
On Nuke, nexa and company demonstrated their high experience and strong top-level, while FaZe on the other hand struggled to establish a potent CT-side. That resulted in a very one-sided first half, where G2 time after time mowed down a tame FaZe defence.
The Balkan-French mixed team continued their supremacy going into the latter stages of the match, which in the end lead to a devastating 16-5 win. A defeat, which means a goodbye to FaZe, while G2 stay alive in the lower bracket at the profiled event.
