G2 fall short against strong Spaniards
Movistar Riders conclude an excellent IEM Fall Europe campaign with a victory over G2.
Yesterday, Movistar Riders wrote CS:GO history as they will become the first-ever Spanish roster to compete at a Major – Today, they battered the superstars from G2.
Going into the match between G2 and Movistar Riders at IEM Fall Europe, there wasn’t much to play for on paper. Both teams had already secured a ticket for the upcoming PGL Stockholm Major, where G2’s Legend spot and Movistar Riders’ Contender spot also couldn’t be altered.
The 5th place decider began with G2 in the lead, as the French-Balkan mix kicked off the series by winning their map pick on Mirage through a stellar second half CT-round. A map, where the oldest Kovac cousins in Nemanja “huNter-“ Kovac stepped up massively, presenting a 17-3 K-D / 2.24 on the CT-side.
Despite, losing the first map on Mirage, Movistar Riders came out red-hot on Vertigo. The Spaniards completely steamrolled over G2 on the second map, and the dominant map 16-8 win looked quickly as an inevitable fact.
Movistar Riders managed to continue their strong form on the decider of Ancient, where they used their momentum to secure a close and competitive 16-14 victory, which mean they conclude IEM Fall as #5 overall.
