apEX: "New players think more about themselves than the team"
CS:GO pros answer what it takes to become a professional Counter-Strike player
In a series of interviews, posted on BLAST Premier's Youtube channel, various Counter-Strike pros are asked what it takes for new players to become professional, as well as how they themselves came up in the scene. The in-game leader of Vitality Dan "apEX" Madesclaire explains how he was brought into the scene in different ways than what is now normal:
"Things changed since I became a pro player. Obviously for me, it was different. I did some local LANs when I got better and better, I joined new teams at new ages. That's not the case anymore, now I think FACEIT and FPL have been the right way to become better and to become professional."
Although FACEIT and FPL are the new ways of getting better at the game of Counter-Strike as well as getting exposure and attention from the bigger teams, it simultaneously means a shift in players' focus. At least if you ask "apEX":
"The only bad thing about FACEIT and FPL is the team-play factor for the players. Players are now really good mechanically, but they think more about themselves than the team. They are not really good communication-wise or teamplay-wise. That's why they aren't really good in-game leaders. We lack in-game leaders in Counter-Strike."
