Sprout takes down Movistar in Grand Final
In the Grand Final at European Development Championship Sprout took a surprising win.
The Germans were dubbed as the underdogs before the match against Movistar Riders. The Iberian team had plowed through the playoff stage without conceding a map, but against Sprout, they came short.
It started well though for Owen "smooya" Butterfield and Movistar Riders. They managed to win Sprout's map pick Nuke and looked destined to claim the overall victory on their map pick, Train. A map that they had demolished Budapest Five 16-2 in the Quarter-Finals. But today the score was reversed. Spectacularly, Movistar Riders fell apart on Train and lost 16-2 to Sprout with the Englishman Owen "smooya" Butterfield being the only player from Movistar Riders to play up to his standards.
The deciding map was Mirage. Here Sprout's AWP'er Fritz 'slaxz-' Dietrich was activated, and the German made it very difficult for Movistar Riders to gain any map control during the match. It ended with a 16-10 win to Sprout, after a dominant performance on their CT-side in the second half.
Sprout wins $17.500 while Movistar Riders take home $7.500 for their effort.
Movistar Riders - Sprout 1-2 (16-10, 2-16, 10-16)
MVP: Owen "smooya" Butterfield - 1.25 / 62-43 K-D / 78.9 ADR
