Spotlight on the Top 20: G2
Here's a comprehensive recap of G2's 2020 season.
In this series, we take a look at the teams that finished 2020 in the Top 20 rankings. Today we take a look at number 8.
Name: G2 Esports
Origin: France/Spain
The mixed French-Balkan roster started 2020 with a blast. Quite literally, in fact. G2 managed to grab the 1st place at BLAST Premier Spring Regular season, by taking down 100 Thieves, Evil Geniuses and OG in confident Fashion. Nexa and the rest of G2 topped it off, with an impressive 2nd place at the most prestigious event of 2020, IEM Katowice.
And oh yes. They signed Nikola “NiKo” Kovac from FaZe, one of the best players the game ever has seen.
Active roster:
Kenny “kennyS” Schrub
Francois “AmaNEk” Delaunay
Nemanja “nexa” Isakovic
Nemanja “huNter-“ Kovac
Nikola “NiKo” Kovac
Transfers in 2020:
Out: JaCkz
Out: SmithZz
In: NiKo
Highlight of the year:
The high point for G2 must be the signing of the Bosnian phenomenon, Nikola “NiKo” Kovac back in October. A player who has graced the CS:GO world for ages and been on top of the rankings time after time, and an individual who can improve the team and make an impact from the very get-go.
And that was exactly what NiKo did. For the last 3 months of 2020, the former FaZe player has averaged a staggering 1.20 rating added by a likewise immense 87.0 ADR.
G2 going forward.
The battle monthly between JaCkz and AmaNEk for the fifth spot on the roster may have been a burden and small hindrance for G2, which might explain their fairly unsuccessful ending of 2020. However, the feud has been decided, and AmaNEk and the rest of G2 are ready to once again to compete on the very highest level of CS:GO.
G2 will compete at both the upcoming BLAST Premier Global Finals, but also the highly-awaited event of IEM Katowice 2021.
