New-look Complexity loses to Gambit in debut match
The Russian youngsters proved too strong for Ricky “floppy” Kemery and company at Funspark ULTI.
Right before the start of Funspark ULTI Finals 2021, the first tournament of the year, Complexity confirmed the signing of the promising Extra Salt core in Johnny "JT" Theodosiou, Justin "FaNg" Coakley, and Ricky "floppy" Kemery, followed by Michael “Grim” Wince and Paytyn “Junior” Johnson.
The fresh Complexity side kick-started their new CS:GO journey on Ancient, which has developed into being a rare sight in top-tier Counter-Strike. The North American underdogs showed a great fight against the favourites from Gambit, where especially the former Cloud9 rifler floppy displayed immense levels, keeping Complexity in the match round after round.
However, floppy’s heroic’s and his stellar 1.75 Rating wasn’t enough in the end, as Gambit locked down the first map with a 16-11 scoreline.
On Gambit’s map pick of Vertigo, the picture changed a bit with Complexity being on the CT side, where they established a strong defence and set the score at 9-6 before the switch. And despite Gambit coming back to clinch a 14-11 lead, it was Complexity who was the one getting on map point first through a strong display by FaNg and JT - the captain himself. Nonetheless, things went to overtime (the fifth overtime so far at the event).
In OT, Complexity managed to fulfil the stunning achievement of beating the world #2 team on their own map pick, as they eased past the Russians 19-16.
Towards the end of the series, nafany and company proved why they are one of the best CS:GO teams in the world right now by steamrolling over Complexity in dominant fashion.
