Natus Vincere join G2 in Grand Final
“s1mple” and his troops made it look easy when beating Gambit 2-0
The first Grand Finalist was found between Heroic and G2, with G2 being the victors of the first Semi-final. The second Grand Finalist joining G2 in a brawl for the Major trophy was to be found between Natus Vincere and Gambit. Since the beginning of the PGL Major 2021 it has been clear that Natus Vincere are currently on a whole different level than the remaining tier-one teams within the CS:GO scene. Despite facing against the powerful CIS machine that is Gambit, “s1mple” and his troops were once again the heavy favorites going into the Bo3-series – and for good reason. After taking home their opponent's map pick, all they had to do was to win their own map and they were through to the Grand Final. Natus Vincere managed to do exactly that and proved to everyone why they are so feared at the moment. With confidence, they picked apart Gambit in only two maps and took home the victory. They will be facing G2 in the Grand Final of the PGL Major tomorrow.
The first map was the choice of Gambit and saw the second Semi-final start on overpass. It was clear that Gambit picked into their own strengths instead of their opponent’s weaknesses by opting for Overpass. Whilst they have won every single time, they have played Overpass in the past three months (6 maps), it is also a very strong map for the Natus Vincere roster. This showed already from the early stages of the map as Natus Vincere and “s1mple” proved a difficult task for the Gambit offense. Only managing to break down the defense of NaVi a handful of times the Gambit boys would have to see themselves behind at the scoreline of 10-5 going into the second half of the series. As potent as the defense of NaVi had been in the first half, as calculated and powerful was their offense in the second half. Allowing no more than three rounds to their opponents it was clear as to which team was the strongest on Overpass. At 16-8, it was NaVi to take home the victory on map one and look poised for a spot in the Grand Final.
The second map of the series was to be played on Mirage and was, of course, picked by NaVi. After defeating Gambit on their own map pick it seemed the perfect map for NaVi to take home the 2-0 victory. Due to its open spaces and ability to force aim duels it seemed ideal for a Natus Vincere and “s1mple” on fire – and it was. Already from the start of Mirage, it became clear that Gambit had met their match. In dominating fashion, it seemed almost impossible for the offense of Gambit to break down NaVi and at the scoreline of 12-3 Gambit had an almost impossible task ahead of them in the second half of Mirage. With a confident “s1mple” leading the charge it was all too little too late for Gambit and at the impressive scoreline of 16-3, it was Natus Vincere to close out the Bo3-series and earn their spot in the Grand Final of the PGL Major in Stockholm.
