jks sends a special thanks to FaZe: I probably wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them
One single event in life could make a massive difference. This sympathetic Australian is living proof of just that.
Justin “jks” Savage has written his name in the history books of Counter-Strike as the Aussie lifted his second IEM Katowice trophy yesterday following G2’s incredible 3-1 Grand Final victory over Heroic.
Winning back-to-back titles in one of CS:GO’s most prestigious and most historic tournaments is without of doubt a stellar achievement. But it would not have happened if FaZe had not reached out to him last year when they needed a stand-in, jks explains.
Thankful for FaZe call-up
-It’s a surreal feeling. One and a half years ago, I had no idea that I would win the first one [together with FaZe], let alone win two in a row, jks said on the broadcast.
-I have to give a special shoutout to FaZe — without them I don’t think G2 would have noticed me earlier and picked me up, and without them I probably wouldn’t be playing in an international team. I love those guys so much and they gave me the opportunity to play again.
A new player
One thing to pinpoint on jks so far in 2023, and especially at IEM Katowice, is the improvement of his individual game and impact on the server. By averaging an outstanding 1.24 Rating throughout the event, the Aussie rifler was a key part of the title run, in which he also earned the DHL MVP medal.
- I’m not the same type of player that I use to be. Nowadays I go for a lot more risks, I’m doing a lot more things on the server, and people are giving me more space. And I think as a team we’re just getting way more comfortable together inside and outside the game, and that’s just boosting everyone’s individual game honestly.
“Mind-blowing”
jks and his remarkable comeback to the very top of CS:GO hasn’t gone unnoticed either with analyst Mathieu “Maniac” Quiquerez praising him immensely for his resurrection.
- jks was in a bit of a no man’s land. He came in and stood-in for FaZe - of course, the rest is history. And now he’s the back-to-back champion of IEM Katowice and the DHL MVP. This is so mind-blowing how his life has changed in the last 12 months.
