Gambit seal Grand Final spot after stellar showing

Spirit couldn’t find the answers, as the dominant Gambit roster steamrolled over degster and co.

They took down the mighty NAVI in the quarterfinals and now it was Spirit’s turn to get dismantled by this young and extremely powerful Gambit roster. With the vital 2-0 victory, Gambit grabs the first Grand Final spot where they will meet either Virtus.pro or Liquid.

Gambit decided to go with Overpass as their map pick, even though they suffered two defeats against Heroic and EG on the map, going into today. However, it quickly proved to be a rather good decision, as Gambit came out red-hot at the start, presenting a strong T-sided first half. The youngsters set up a solid 9-6 lead, which they continued to build on after the switch, and through two strong performances by Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov and Abay “Hobbit” Khasenov, Gambit closed out the map by a 16-11 score.

Going into the second map on Inferno, the Russian Dragons from Spirit was in desperate need of a victory, if they want to proceed at the prestigious tournament.

There was only one problem for Spirit. A problem with the name of Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov. The promising AWPer had a very low 0.91 Rating on Overpass, however on this second map, he decided to step up significantly by presenting a 13-1 K-D throughout the first half, which led Gambit to a dominant 12-3 lead.

Spirit looked done and dusted, as a completely unthinkable comeback was needed for Leonid “Chopper” Vishnyakov and his troops. In fact, they managed to establish a strong defence on their CT-side by setting up strong holds on both bomb sites, which set the score at 15-13.

However, it was all in vain. Because when things mattered the most, Gambit stepped up and secured the series 16-13, through a clinical B-site execute.
