Abay “Hobbit” Khasenov and company are the winners of the prominent $1 million tournament following a 3-1 victory over Virtus.pro in the Grand final.
The winner of IEM Katowice 2021 has been found!
The Russian-side from Gambit secured the title as IEM Katowice champions and $400.000 after a 3-1 victory over Jame and company from Virtus.pro in the Grand Final. It was Gambit’s third match and victory in a row against a CIS team, coming all the way from the Lower bracket in the tournament to reach the status as the top team in their region.

The action started on Gambit’s pick of Vertigo where Virtus.pro drew the first blood to the series by taking the first map 16-14 after a close affair. It didn’t affect the Russian-side that the lost their own map pick as they bounced back in the second map of the series with a dominant performance coming out from interz (25-9 K/D) to tie up the series 1-1 with a 16-6 victory.
After a short break, it was time for Gambit’s pick of Train. Hobbit and company once again dominated the VP squad out of the server and took the third map 16-4. Hobbit himself was the difference maker for the Russian-side with 1.25 KPR and 2.34 Impact Rating.
The Gambit squad secured the series victory on Overpass after some strong individual performances from nafany and Hobbit that helped to push the team over the finish line and deny Virtus.pro a comeback. The Russian-side were mostly in control throughout the map and proved why they are the top team in the CIS region right now. Gambit’s sh1ro won his 19th clutch at the event, tying up s1mple’s record for the most at a single event.
