G2 take down FaZe and advance to Semi-Finals
G2’s 10-map win streak on Inferno ended but they still took the W.
Group A of BLAST Premier Spring Finals in Lisbon has surprisingly been won by G2. Finn 'karrigan' Andersen’s favorites were toast after three maps.
It all started with slaughter on Inferno. Normally a safe haven for G2, but today it ended up being a nightmare for the team. The first half was lost 13-2, where Ilya 'm0NESY' Osipov only contributed with one single kill during the 15 rounds! G2 could not repair the damages from the first half and lost for the first time in 11 matches on Inferno.
The match headed on to Ancient, where G2 had not won a match since February. But on their CT side in the first half, the G2 train started to take off. A 9-6 lead left them with a lot of work still to do in the second half, where their T side had to perform better than what was shown on Inferno. And so they did. After a strong start from FaZe, it was the in-game leader himself, Aleksi 'Aleksib' Virolainen, who made the difference for G2, and helped his team to make it to 16-13, and force the match onto Dust2 for a decider.
The decider of the series was Dust2 and there 'NiKo' unleashed his wrath. The Bosnian with young AWPer 'm0NESY' in tow, led the G2 offense to a beautiful 11-4 T side, and they were now primed to take the game and the series. The G2 machine never faltered, and they took down the world's #1 in style at 16-5.
