G2 rip MIBR apart to book BLAST Spring Final spot
m0NESY and NiKo lead G2 to a crushing 2-0 victory over the South American underdogs.
The first matchup of the day from BLAST Premier Spring Groups ended up being a total bloodbath, as we saw a dominant G2 squad steamroll over the Brazilians from MIBR through two very one-sided maps on Ancient and Inferno.
On MIBR’s map pick of Ancient, it was G2’s Bosnian superstar Nikola “NiKo” Kovac who took over the control of the server and completely dictated the match on both the CT and T side for his team. The powerful rifler dealt no more than 130.9 damage per round on the first map, where it quickly stood clear that MIBR had no answer for his dominant showing.
The G2 supremacy, which got Rémy “XTQZZZ” Quoniam and his men a 16-5 victory on Ancient, continued on Inferno as nothing had changed. The 42 places between the two sides became clearly evident round after round, where the superstars from G2 out-shined their opponents in almost every aspect of the game.
The highlight of the match, and most likely also the highlight of the tournament, came from the Russian wonderkid Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov in the 9th round. The 16-year-old AWPer saw himself situated in a tough 1v4 clutch on the B bombsite, where the majority of players would have fallen in quick fashion. However, m0NESY is not your ordinary CS:GO player.
With the 16-5 and 16-6 victories, G2 secure a spot in the favourable and more prominent BLAST Premier Spring Final, while MIBR on the other hand must settle for a spot in the Spring Showdown tournament alongside the likes of EG, Complexity and Liquid.
