Astralis add former 1.6 star as academy coach
Martin "trace" Heldt has been announced as the new Head Coach of Astralis Talent.
The Danes from Astralis has already made their first signing of 2022, with the Counter-Strike powerhouse bringing in Martin “trace” Heldt as the new head coach of Astralis Talent. The 31-year-old coach joins Astralis after having led Team Singularity and Lyngby Vikings, which later on became ECSTATIC.
trace opens up about the transfer here.
- I'm thrilled to be able to call myself an Astralis Coach. It's no secret that I have had several other options, but with the project Kasper Hvidt and I have discussed, the resources Astralis brings to the game, and the way they work as an organization, it did not take me many days to say "yes."
You can read the full statement by Astralis down below.
During his time at mTw from 2009-2011, trace was recognized as one of the best Counter-Strike 1.6 players in the world. Now the Dane will have to try to use his experience to lift and elevate Astralis’ academy team as their new head coach – A position he will inherit from Dennis “VNG” Vang, who has been dismissed by the Danish organization.
- I was not hired to chase down results on the server, even though it is a fundamental part of Astralis' DNA, but for building processes internally and creating a foundation on which Astralis could create real first-team players in the future (...) Now that the foundation has been built and a lineup has been created that works 'full time' on the hunt to become the next big esports star, results on the server has become more important and Astralis has decided that the next piece of work getting results was best done by someone else and I simply have to respect that, VNG writes in a Twitlonger.
trace and the rest of Astralis Talent will already kick off the 2022-season today when they initiate their campaign at WePlay Academy League Season 3 against Young Ninjas around 17:00 (CET).
