Many experts and fans had NAVI as the clear favorites in Group A going into ESL Pro League Season 16. However, the star-studded Ukrainian squad only barely managed to go through to the playoff stage following three consecutive losses against Endpoint, Vitality and NIP.
The performance and result were also something NAVI’s superstar Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev wasn’t particularly pleased with when he spoke with ESL for an interview yesterday.
I think we have played really bad recently.
We had no time to prepare our new game with me because the team had bootcamp with headtr1ck. It’s good that we qualified – some unexpected loses against Endpoint, Vitality and NIP. So yeah, we just need more time to practice and hopefully next time we beat them.
In the post-match interview, s1mple touches on the lack of preparation with him and the NAVI roster going into ESL Pro League owing to the AWPer having been on a short break due to personal reasons. Therefore, NAVI has played and been on bootcamp with Daniil "headtr1ck" Valitov.
S1mple ended with a 1.11 Rating after the five matches at Pro League, which is way below his average rating.
