GODSENT takes down the winner of IEM New York
GODSENT and FaZe met in the deciding match of group C, with the winning side going to the favorable upper bracket and the loser going to the lower bracket.
It’s less than a week ago that FaZe were crowned as the winner of IEM New York EU. But time flies and FaZe is now just one defeat away from an exit at DreamHack Open Fall.
FaZe started the match with a solid 16-11 win on Mirage, with a powerful duo in Kjaerbye and NiKo both presenting a strong 1.39 rating and a 24-15 and 25-15 K/D respectively.
Godsent had to come up with a win on Nuke to avoid the 2-0 defeat. With Maden in the driver seat producing 16 kills, they managed to set up a 10-5 score on a strong T-side. Godsent finished the map in confident style and won 16-11.
Inferno was picked as the deciding map. Before the game, Godsent had a solid 67% win rate on Inferno over the last three months, compared to FaZe’s 50%, something that could indicate a small advantage to the Swedish team going into the last map.
Godsent displayed once again a very strong T-sided first half by holding FaZe to only 5 rounds. At one time, it looked like a comeback from FaZe was on the cards. With a very well playing NiKo, and a hero ace by coldzera, FaZe manages to win 7 rounds in a row to make it 12-13. But Godsent showed great character and kept a cool head to the very last round, with Maden closing it off in the 28th resulting in a surprisingly 16-12 win for Godsent over FaZe.
Godsent will play the mighty Astralis tomorrow at 13:00 (CEST) in the first game of the playoff in DreamHack Open Fall.
