Copenhagen Flames to the grand final of Elisa Invitational Fall 2021!
The underdogs of Copenhagen Flames upset Gambit in a very tight affair
The underdogs of Copenhagen Flames were given the first map pick of the matchup, and with it they unsurprisingly picked Ancient. It has been their go-to map since it came into the map pool, and understandably as they boast a 16-4 record on it over the last three months.
The Danish squad starting on the T-side started hot and heavy taking pressuring Gambit into a lot of saves. Gambit did manage to get a lot of exit-frags though and therefore kept the T-side economy low throughout the first half. This didn't matter to the Flames, as they kept putting rounds on the board despite very scrappy buys. As a result, the Flames managed to go to halftime with a score of 9-6 on what is usually a CT-sided map.
The second half was a very messy and chaotic affair. Multiple force buy rounds were won by both teams, and both teams looked flustered at times. At last, it was neck and neck at 14-13 in the favor of the Danes led by a very strong performance from the youngster "Jabbi", with "sh1ro" doing his very best to drag Gambit back into the map. The Flames managed to apprehend the Russians in their comeback attempt and took the first in this Bo3 16-13.
To advance to the grand final Gambit now had to win the last two maps, starting with their map pick: Mirage. They needed to show up, and they did right from the start, taking four of the first five rounds, resulting in a very healthy economy. Unexpectedly the Russian roster slowed down, and that rock-solid economy they had built was soon demolished by an awakened Copenhagen Flames. With lots of different CT setups and a convincing performance from “roeJ”, the Danes took nine of the last ten rounds in the first half, making the halftime score 5-10.
Smelling the victory the Flames kept applying the pressure, quickly making the score 5-13. This didn’t sit well with the world’s number 2, who started their comeback taking eight of the next nine rounds. But it was all for naught, as the Flames had already gathered too many rounds, and were able to close out the map 13-16.
Waiting for the Danes in the Grand Final already are the Bulgarians from Fiend. The final will take place at 8 pm tonight!
