Fnatic sign smooya as their new AWPer
The former BIG and Movistar Riders profile has been brought in on a 3-month trial on the Swedish top team.
Owen “smooya” Butterfield only got to be a free agent for a very short period of time, after he was released by Movistar Riders earlier today. Just a couple of hours later, it was revealed that Fnatic has decided to acquire the British AWPer.
- For those who enjoyed the British Fnatic flag, you're about to be really excited for a LONG time. This is a situation that I never thought I would see myself in because of my past mistakes throughout my career (...), smooya says on Twitter, and adds:
I'm joining with a very open mindset and reasonable expectations for myself and the team, here to work hard every day not only in-game but to develop myself as a person too. I've been waiting for a chance like this for years and I think now is the perfect time for this to happen.
Smooya has already played some official matches for Fnatic, when he helped the team advance at the open qualifier at IEM Winter last week. The 22-year-old averaged an impressive 1.35 Rating / 83.4 ADR in the five maps, where they defeated K23, Galaxy Racer, and Gamer Legion.
At Elisa Invitational Fall, Fnatic played with their young academy player, Iulian “regali” Harjău as their AWPer. A tournament, where they only got to play one match as they lost the quarterfinal matchup against Copenhagen Flames.
