dev1ce on Astralis rumours: The reports of me leaving NIP are nonsense

The Danish superstar is currently recovering from mental health issues, which is the reason why he wasn't competing at the IEM Winter playoff and BLAST World Final.

Yesterday, several reports emerged about Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz wanting to leave his current team Ninjas in Pyjamas to re-join the Danish heavy hitters from Astralis. Both 1pv.fr and Dexerto has stated to have sources telling them that the superstar AWPer is eager to return home to the organization, where he had played for 5 years from 2016-2021.

However, in the late evening, hours after the reports came out, dev1ce himself went on Twitter to deny and refute the reports and the rumours of him wanting to join Astralis.

- Today there is new speculation as to the reason why I’m currently taking time out: I shouldn’t have to, but as it’s proving unfair on my teammates, I thought it best to offer an explanation (…) All of these nonsense reports of me leaving the team, are exactly that, nonsense.

In the long Twitter thread, dev1ce also took his time explaining why he hasn’t been playing with the NIP squad for the last two events, elaborating on his mental health issues. You can read the entire thread here.

- Hey guys, 2021 has been a tough year for so many people, myself included. Today there is new speculation as to the reason why I’m currently taking time out: I shouldn’t have to, but as it’s proving unfair on my team mates, I thought it best to offer an explanation...

My mental health has taken a hammering this year, for both personal reasons and the pressure that comes with playing professional esports. NIP and my teammates have been very understanding in letting me work on my mental well-being for the end of the year...

I have been taking active steps toward recovery and am looking forward to putting in the work that will enable me to get back to the top of my game and be the best version of myself. All of these nonsense reports of me leaving the team, are exactly that, nonsense...

When anyone is having issues surrounding the health of their mind, I believe that it’s imperative they’re given time and space to deal with them: and not be bombarded with falsities...

I hope this serves to stop further unsettling rumours and kindly ask the media to respect my privacy at this time. Thanks so much for your understanding and here’s looking forward to a brilliant 2022, dev1ce said.
