dev1ce: I’m not washed up; I can still reach my top levels from 2018-2019
In a talk with Pley, the former Astralis AWPer opens up about his consistency issues at NIP but also how he's certain that he can reach the very top of CS:GO again.
The iconic team of Ninjas in Pyjamas has in 2021 gone from fielding a fully-Swedish roster for years to now having a Scandinavian mix with the superstar AWPer Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz in front of it all. The results this year haven’t been as successful as NIP could have hoped for, however, there’s light at the of the tunnel if you ask the powerful Dane.
At a press session at IEM Winter, we got the chance to chat with dev1ce about his first period with NIP and his future expectations for him and the team.
- Our peak was being 2nd best in the world and winning IEM Fall EU, which were not an international tournament. Of course, we are not satisfied with that. There are always ups and downs for every team almost, especially with NAVI being settled as the #1 team. For us, it’s all about finding consistency in our results and trusting in this project. (…) We expect from ourselves that we are going to win some tournaments next year, hopefully competing and winning a Major.
Can dev1ce reach the top again?
We also asked dev1ce whether he thought that he was able to return to the same individual top levels as he showed when he peaked for Astralis in 2018-2019.
- Yeah, I really do believe that I can do that. The year has been a bit difficult for me in a lot of stuff, but I am still kind of happy that I haven’t been doing totally sh*t, even though I sometimes feel like that. I don’t think I’m washed up or anything. The most annoying part is the inconsistency that I’m experiencing right now, but that is something I’m working on individually.
