A battle of Swedish legends ends 2-1 to Fnatic
Fnatic bests Dignitas in their opening round of Flashpoint 2
When talking professional Counter-Strike it is almost impossible not to mention Swedish Counter-strike. Today fans all over the world were granted a nostalgic showing in the capabilities of Swedish Counter-strike, with Fnatic taking on Dignitas in a BO3-series to determine the winner of the upper-bracket quarterfinals.
Whilst two of Counter-Strikes biggest legends Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg and Adam “friberg” Friberg now represent Dignitas instead of NiP there is no question about their level of skill as well as, of course, their experience.
They were, however, challenged when facing Fnatic, who currently ranks 14th. In the world. The first map took place on Fnatic’s map pick Overpass. It was, already from an early stage of the game, clear to see why this was their map of choice. Fnatic steam-rolled Dignitas and managed to secure themselves a 16-4 victory on map one, with a spectacular performance from Jesper “JW” Wecksell.
The second map took place on Vertigo and was a much closer battle between the two Scandinavian rosters. Dignitas managed to bounce back from a crushing defeat on Overpass and finished map two with a 16-11 victory on Vertigo.
The final map was to take place on Train and with both teams now ready and eager to fight, it seemed as if it could go either way. Neither of the Swedish rosters refused to give their opponents an inch. In the end, however, it was Fnatic to take the edge and ultimately secure themselves a series win by defeating Dignitas 16-11
