Xyp9x extends his contract with Astralis
The four-time Major winner has decided to stay with Astralis, despite rumours of him leaving.
Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth and Astralis have agreed to a new four-year contract expiring in 2025, the Danish organization confirms on Twitter. The “Clutch Minister” will therefore extend his tenure with the CS:GO mastodon, where he has played and won no less than four Major titles since the beginning of 2016.
- Astralis has been a part of me for so many years. It is no secret that I had other options, but I am truly excited that we have come to an agreement that means I can stay right here, where I feel at home. With my future settled, I can now use all my energy and focus to get the team back where we belong, starting with the coming tournament in Stockholm, Xyp9x states and continues:
- I have a really good feeling about the development on the team and organization, and I have no doubt Astralis will have an exceptionally strong position in the coming years.
The decision to extend his contract may come as a surprise for some people in the community, as Xyp9x heavily hinted towards an Astralis exit in mid-August this year, where he went out saying “I love Astralis, but I think now is a great opportunity to look around, see my options, and see what the future brings - Everything is up in the air”
The statements from the Astralis veteran came in a period, where he was placed on the bench due to the young AWPer Phillip “Lucky” Ewald having occupied his spot on the active lineup. However, in the two latest tournaments at IEM Fall and BLAST Premier Fall Groups, Xyp9x has played every map – Also being confirmed as a starter at the upcoming PGL Major in Stockholm.
- We go to Stockholm as reigning champions, and even though the competition is tougher than ever and we do not play with the exact same line-up, we enter the tournament with a new hunger with players who know what it takes to win the biggest title of them all, says Xyp9x.
