SPUNJ: I would be a little bit worried, if I was Lucky
The talk of the town after the impressive debut for the new Astralis roster against NIP was the role switch for the normal AWP'er Philip "Lucky" Ewald.
A lot of excitement surrounded yesterday night's brawl between Astralis and Ninjas in Pyjamas. The two rivals were paired in the opening round of BLAST Premier Fall Finals, where both teams had fresh faces in their lineups.
Astralis had Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke and Benjamin "blameF" Bremer on the server for the first time, while Alexander 'ave' Holdt also made his debut as the new coach of Astralis. It was none of the three though, who stole the spotlight in the beginning. On Nuke it quickly became evident, that Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander was the main AWP'er on the team. A trend that continued on Overpass, where we even saw a double AWP setup, but without Lucky being one of the two with the expensive rifle.
A first-hand witness to all of that was caster and analyst, Chad "SPUNJ" Burchill, who we caught up with before Astralis' match today against Team Vitality.
- Overall for the team it is a great debut and a great start. But I have a lot of questions about how the team is going to look in the future. I have a hard time believing, that this team, that function as the best team in the world with a star AWP'er, is going to attempt to do the same with their in-game leader AWP'ing. Now if they do, and revolutionize the way the game is played again, props to them! But at the moment, I don't think and feel that this is the future of the team.
Philip "Lucky" Ewald was brought in at the start of August to fill in the role as an AWP'er. Astralis had been without a designated sniper since the departure of Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz at the start of the year. With Lucky not playing the AWP on both Nuke and Overpass, it will be interesting to see, if the 18-year-old Astralis player will be back on the AWP on other maps, or if he is a permanent rifler now on the team.
- The fact that he was brought into the team to AWP, and now he is rifling says enough. To put him into a position where it looked like he was playing the anchor positions, B-site on Overpass and top site on Nuke, those are positions that a rifler can play, but if you look at, what he was geared for, it is not what he was brought in for. So I would be a little bit worried if I were Lucky.
