OG, SAW, Metizport, and Spirit set to fight for Spring Final tickets
Several upsets at the BLAST qualifier have seen some unexpected teams left in the fight for two spots at the BLAST Spring Finals in London.
Day 4 of the BLAST Spring Finals qualifier ended up being one of the shortest of the tournament with three one-sided victories.
First up it was OG, who has popped up out of nowhere and suddenly started playing good Counter-Strike at this tournament, taking on Heroic. Like in their Complexity win earlier in the tournament, it was the Israelian rifler Nikita 'HeavyGod' Martynenko, that stole a lot of the headlines with two excellent maps going +26 in K-D on Mirage and Vertigo. It was especially the two old Heroic players, Rasmus 'sjuush' Beck and René "TeSeS" Madsen that had problems making an impact for Heroic, who lost the opportunity to defend their Spring Final win from 2023 with the loss.
Another positive surprise at the event has been the Swedes from Metizport. The Ninjas in Pyjamas rejects have played better Counter-Strike the last few days than what we have seen from NIP in the past couple of years. Against Monte Adam "adamb" Ångström and the rest of the Swedish roster took control from the get-go with a 10-2 half on Vertigo, before they showed another stellar T side on Mirage to finish off the Ukrainians.
Despite a superb second half on the first map of Anubis from BIG in their encounter with Spirit, there was no upset in the last match of the day. Spirit won Anubis 13-11 before crushing BIG 13-3 on Vertigo. Danil "donk" Kryshkovets played lights out again with a 1.80 rating, while his team captain Leonid 'chopper' Vishnyakov held a masterclass on Vertigo going 24-5 in K-D!
