maLeK with praise for Copenhagen Flames: If you win five bo1's, you can not talk about luck anymore
Copenhagen Flames was the talk of the town after their spectacular run at the group stage of IEM Fall Europe.
The fairytale story of IEM Fall Europe was without a doubt the 5-0 run from Copenhagen Flames. In a stacked group with G2, BIG, mousesports, and FunPlus Phoenix the Danes managed to plow through them all in the best of one format. Even though the Danish team had been improving steadily throughout the last couple of months, it was still unexpected, that the Flames could be in contention for a playoff spot in Group A.
It started with a 16-12 win against FunPlus Phoenix. The day after Copenhagen Flames narrowly won 16-14 against AURA, the only team that they were expected to beat. G2 was beaten after overtime, while both mousesports and BIG were taken care of in a swift fashion.
- They are hard-working guys. They benefitted from their stratbook. It is not really a team of hard-hitting individuals, but if you are watching their demos you can see, that they are really well prepared. They punish teams for their mistakes, and they have really good team play. We have to see if they can keep it up in the bo3's, but I am really impressed by their games so far, fellow Dane Nicklas "gade" Gade from BIG expressed in a press conference before the playoffs at IEM Fall.
The coach of G2 also praised the Danes for their incredible win-streak at the tournament.
- I think the format helped. But probs to them. They caught the momentum. But if you win one bo1 it is a thing. If you win two bo1 it is a thing. But if you win five bo1's you can not talk about luck anymore, Damien "maLeK" Marcel told the press about the high-flying Danes, who yesterday jumped into the top 20 ranking in the world on HLTV's world ranking.
Copenhagen Flames are not yet qualified for the Major. They need to secure themselves 6th place at IEM Fall to be sure of qualification. If not, they need help from other teams to make it. They start their playoff run with a tough match against Team Vitality on Thursday.
