CPH Flames owner explains regali benching: We needed to make a change for the benefit of the whole team
Replacing your by far highest-rated player is not something you often see. But there is more to CS:GO than fragging abilities, the Danish org states.
Monday morning, Copenhagen Flames announced that they have decided to bench and transfer list Iulian ‘regali’ Harjău and replace him with the former Astralis AWPer Asger “Farlig” Jensen.
With regali having put up stellar numbers and being a stand-out performer throughout his entire spell at CPH Flames by averaging a 1.20 rating, the first thought was that this must be due to a him being poached by a bigger team. Especially when there already has been 'persistent interest' from tier-1 organizations.
However, that’s not the case here with regali.
We have been in contact with CEO and co-owner at CPH Flames, Steffen Thomsen, where he explains that there are no actual bids or offers in the pipeline for regali and that this change is only made to improve the team.
- Of course, it may seem like a questionable decision when we replace regali as he has been shooting heads left and right. But in this case, we felt that we needed to make a change for the benefit of the whole team, Thomsen explains and continues:
- CS:GO is a much more complex game than fragging ability and for us to be able to bring in a player like Farlig who fits our play style, it made sense to make the change now… we have done everything in our power to make things work for the squad with regal as part of it. For both us and Iulian the best decision was to move on and make sure both sides prosper going forward, Thomsen said to Pley.gg.
