BIG has claimed the first playoff spot at IEM Global Challenge
The German team has advanced to the playoffs after defeating Astralis in a tough battle that sends the Danes to an elimination game.
Astralis will have to fight for survival at IEM Global Finals as BIG came out on top of a tough fight on Vertigo in overtime (22-19) and a good performance on Dust2 (16-10). Berlin International Gaming has made a BIG statement by taking down world’s no. #1 and #2 with great Counter-Strike to secure a playoff spot in the tournament.
The game kicked off on BIG’s map pick, Vertigo. Astralis got the best start with a 7-1 lead on their CT-side, but it was the Germans who reached 15 rounds first. gla1ve’s troops managed to equalize the score and send the map into double OT before syrsoN secured the victory for his team by killing four enemies with his AWP.
device made sure he did his job on Dust2 and delivered a rating of 1.46, but even that wasn’t enough for his squad when BIG switched to the T-side. Astralis only managed to get a single round, before BIG wrapped up the series and the score with 7 rounds in a row.
syrsoN finished the game on top of the overall scoreboard with a rating of 1.23, 80.3 ADR, and a 53-37 score.
The Danes are set to face Vitality in an elimination game where the winner will advance to the playoffs, while the loser leaves the tournament with a 7-8th place and $20.000.
Vitality secured a spot in the decider-match after eliminating Complexity out of the tournament, and Astralis will try to get their revenge for the loss in the grand final of BLAST Premier Fall Finals where ZywOo and company took the crown.
