Astralis edge past Evil Geniuses
The Danes overcame a difficult start to move on into the upper bracket
The first match of BLAST Premier Global Finals proved to be everything, that we were looking for in a game of Counter-Strike.
The North Americans from Evil Geniuses got off to a great start on Inferno leading 4-0 with the help of an early ace from Ethan.
But before halftime Astralis was right back in it. At times the Danes used a triple AUG setup, which was enough to take the lead 8-7.
The two teams were even until 14-14. Here Evil Geniuses very convincingly won the last two rounds and took home their own map pick.
Astralis picked Overpass as their map pick. An unusual pick for the Danes, who quickly showed, that it was not without reason. As T-side they went to halftime with a huge lead at 11-4. A dominating performance gave them the map win 16-8.
Vertigo was left as the decider. Here the pattern from Overpass replicated. The Danes ran away in the first half. This time on their CT-side Astralis took a commanding 11-4 lead at the break by winning 10 rounds in a row!
The Danes cruised home the victory in the second half. All of the Astralis players ended the match with a positive k/d-ratio cementing their dominance on the last two maps.
Astralis will face the winner of G2 and Furia on Thursday, while Evil Geniuses will face the loser in the lower bracket tomorrow.
